After a slightly sleepy January, Bordeaux is waking up to a stream of fun events taking place in February. We have the Spa Salon, a dance festival, a kids’ festival, shopping, concerts and more.
I know that it’s the middle of the winter, but last year we had a week in February when the temperatures went up to 25°C, so in case it happens again here’s an article about the best beaches around Bordeaux.

Hors Piste – ski in the city

Hors Piste is a cool winter event in Darwin where they transform one of the Hangars into a ski station with fun free activities. The event will take place on February 1st. For more details and the full program click here.

Last days of winter Sales

Soldes d’hiver are several weeks in the winter during which you can find really good deals on clothes, shoes, electric supplies, toys and more. Les soldes d’hiver will take place until February 4 so you still have a few days to shop in February.

Disney on ice

One of the most popular events for kids in Bordeaux is happening again! All the popular Disney characters reunite for an ice skating spectacle. Disney Sur Glace includes three shows during this weekend (February 7-9) at the Arkea Arena.  For tickets and more details click here.

Salon Spa

A spa salon with representatives from 70 establishments will take place on February 7-8 in Hangar 14. The program includes different conferences on health and thermal medicine. For the full program click here.

Braderie d’Hiver

Every winter the main streets of Bordeaux are getting filled with stands of clothes, shoes, toys, house supplies and more – this is the Bordeaux winter Braderie. If you’re in town for winter sales take the opportunity to check out the stands of more than 250 merchants on rue Porte Dijeaux, rue Sainte Catherine and rue des Trois Conils. The Braderie will take place on February 6-8.

Jumping International de Bordeaux

Jumping International de Bordeaux is a big riding equestrian event that includes competitions, spectacles and a fun fair. The event will take place on February 6-9 in Parc des Expositions de Bordeaux. More than 250 exhibitors will present their horses at the event which will include activities such as: Jumping world cup, amateurs competition, Equine Health Forum, a show of Iberian horses and more. Villenave Trail Urbain

Villenave Trail Urbain is a sportive weekend taking place in Villenave d’Ornon on February 8-9. The weekend includes four different running/ hiking trails in the landscape of Villenave d’Ornon, starting with a Nordic night walking trail on February 8 and three other trails ranging from 5 to 21km. On February 9, there will also be two hiking trails tracks for kids: the Cross du CAV for kids from 11 to 14 years old and the Pouss’cross for ages 6 to 10. The tracks will start from Espace D’Ornon and will go through several chateaux in the area. You can see all the details and the inscription forms here

Green Market au Château des Tours, Bouscat

A green market will take place on  February 9 in Château des Tours in le Bouscat. The market will host local producers of organic fruit and vegetables, patisserie, natural cosmetics and more. Check out the full list of merchants here. The entry is free.

Festival Pouce Bordeaux

Pouce is the annual kids’ dance festival taking place around Bordeaux metropole. During the festival, many dance shows will take place in Bordeaux, Pessac, Floirac, Bruges and other towns around the metropole. This year the festival will take place on February 11-21. The program also includes a dance workshop for parents and kids on January 26. Check out the full program here

One Night of Queen – Tribute

If you enjoy tribute concerts you may really like this one. Garry Mullen and The Works will pay tribute to Freddy Mercury and Queen at a special concert in Arkea Arena that will take place on February 12. For tickets and more details click here.

Game In Jeux Vidéo

Union Saint Jean invites you to a weekend dedicated to video games on February 15-16. This year the event has a  “games from the 80s” theme. The program for kids includes a family space with kids makeup, paper toys, arcade games, big puzzles and more. The adults can enjoy a game museum, board games and more. Chocolate Festival in Jardin Botanique

This tasty chocolate fair, organized by Fédération Autonome des Métiers Gourmands, is taking place at the Jardin Botanique on February 14-16. This year the theme is “Fruit time” and you’ll discover the beautiful sculptures made by the chocolatiers for the national chocolate competition of Bordeaux. Some of the best Bordeaux chocolatiers will present and sell their works at the fair. For the full program click here.

Ratatam – kids festival

The fourth edition of the Ratatam kids festival will take place at the Entrepôt du Haillan on February 18-23. The program includes concerts, animated movies, a painting contest, video games, meetings with cartoonists, a comics workshop and more. Check out the full program here.

Fête des Bœufs Gras 

Bazas in the Southern part of Gironde is a beautiful town that attracts many people with its weekly market. But what Bazas is mostly known for is its Beef. Since 1283, on the Thursday before Mardi Gras, the city of Bazas hosts the famous “Fête des Bœufs Gras” that celebrates the Bazas Beef. An Oxen parade takes place on the central streets of the town with the Oxen judged by a jury of experts. The day ends with a banquet where you can taste the famous meat. The event will take place on February 20.

Tour of Bazas and Local Foods Tasting

if you’re planning to go to Bazas for Fête des Bœufs Gras you have to read this one! This year two amazing English speaking guides Anne JORDAN and Simona PALENGA of Aquitaine Travel Guide will take for a two hours tour in Bazas. They will take you for a walk around the village of Bazas and show you the highlights of this UNESCO gem. You will discuss the history and importance of the Bazadais cattle and Boeuf Gras and finish with a tasting of local wine and foods, from foie gras to Bazadais saucisson. Tours offered Wednesday, February 19th at 3pm and Thursday, February 20th at 930am and 1030am. The amazing Cirque du Soleil is coming back to Bordeaux once again with its new spectacle Corteo. Three shows will be performed on February 21-23 at the Arkea Arena. For tickets and more info about the show click here

Black History Month in Bordeaux

The third edition of the Black History Month in Bordeaux is taking place from January 9 to February 18. It is a month of reflection on the dark history of slavery that Bordeaux was part of as well as a celebration of black culture in France and around the world. The program of the Black History month includes conferences, music concerts, exhibitions and more. This time the main two themes are the one hundred years mark to the sinking of the “French Titanic” with 192 Senegalese workers onboard and the role Boxing played in the Black liberation.  For more info and the full program click here.

Foire aux Plaisirs

This is the spring edition of the traditional Bordelaise Fair that is taking place at Place des Quinconces from February 21 to March 23. It’s a perfect activity for kids and for those who are young in spirit as La Foire aux Plaisirs de Bordeaux has it all: a big wheel, roller coasters, ghost trains, bumper cars, donuts, crèpes, barbes à papa and more. The fair is open daily from 14:00, you are not required to pay any entry fee, only for some of the attractions. See more info about the fair here.

Truffles market in Saint Emilion 

Truffles are one of the most identified products of the Southwest of France. Usually, Dordogne is the one to take most of the credit when it comes to truffle markets, but Gironde is giving a fight. Every Saturday morning in February a truffles farmers market will take place at Logis de Malet in Saint Emilion. See more info here.

Plenty of concerts at the IBOAT

If you’re looking for a cool music venue in Bordeaux, Iboat is your place. Tens of concerts are planned to take place in this chic boat in Bassin a Flot. For the full program click here.

Carnaval de Bayonne

If you’re in a mood for traveling a bit in February, Bayonne is a good option as on February 22  the city will celebrate its annual carnival. This is a very traditional Basque festival with music and beautiful costumes. The program of the Carnaval has not been updated yet, I will update it here once it goes online.

Winter Sales

Who cares if it’s raining and cold? January is the winter sales month!!
Soldes d’hiver are several weeks in the winter during which you can find really good deals on clothes, shoes, appliances, toys and more. This year the winter sales were shortened to 4 weeks from the previous six weeks period. But from my experience even if you come to Bordeaux a week or two after the sales many shops will still have a lot of items on discount. Les soldes d’hiver will take place from January 8 to February 4.

Arcachon still celebrated Christmas

If you’re moody about Christmas being over there is one place that continues the Christmas spirit just a little bit longer. The Christmas market in Arcachon will be open until January 5th and it even has an ice skating rink, so it’s a great place to go to with kids. For more details click here

Trial Indoor International de Bordeaux

This is a great show for motorbike and action lovers. Trial Indoor International de Bordeaux will take the stage of Arkéa Arena this Saturday (January 10). The show will include plenty of acrobatic stunts and amazing urban decorations. For tickets and more details click here.

Tremplin de 2 Rives

This is the 7th edition of the Tremplin de 2 rives festival which aims to promote the musical talents of Bordeaux. The festival includes eight evenings from January 10 to February 8 in different districts of Bordeaux. For more details click here.

Le Salon du Livre Ancien de Bordeaux

Le Salon du Livre Ancien de Bordeaux brings together more than 40 French exhibitors for the biggest ancient books event in the Southwest of France. Every year more than 3000 people attend this event to look for rare pieces of literature and discover old books from every genre: fiction, kids’ books, old magazines and more. The event will take place at Cours Mably on January 18-19. Read more about the book fair here

Le monde des dinosaures au parc des expositions de bordeaux

If your kids love dinosaurs they will be happy to hear that this month the exhibition “The world of Dinosaurs” is coming to Bordeaux. The exhibition will present 25 species of dinosaurs, among them the huge T-REX measuring 13/5 m long and 4.5 m tall. The exhibition will take place on January 18-19 at the Parc des Expositions de Bordeaux. For more info click here

Trente Trente – Emerging arts Festival

Trente Trente is an annual festival, created to promote emerging artists in Bordeaux and Nouvelle Aquitaine in general. The festival includes more than twenty performances by artists from all genres, with some experimenting with interdisciplinary arts. Check out the full program that includes dance, music, theater, circus and more. The festival takes place on January 21-February 1st in different theaters and cultural spaces across the metropole (see the full list here).

Bordeaux rock Festival

Bordeaux Rock festival is the big gathering of independent and alternative bands that takes place every year in Bordeaux. This year it will take place on January 22-26 in different music venues in Bordeaux like the Iboat and Salle des fêtes du grand parc. For the full program and tickets click here. International magic festival

The international magic festival will take place in Théâtre Fémina on January 25-26. This year seven world-class artists (magicians and illusionists) will offer you breathtaking spectacles that you wouldn’t want to miss. For more info and tickets click here.

Hostens Trails 2020

Every year the Gironde department organizes plenty of sporting events that are open to the public. The first one in 2020 will take place on the weekend of January 25-26 in Hostens. The event offers several trails for both runners, walkers and Nordic walkers. The price varies according to the trail and prior registration is mandatory. For more info click here.

La nuit des conservatoires

This Friday (January 31) le Conservatoire de Bordeaux invites you to a special night with concerts and performances from all the disciplines taught at the conservatory. Besides concerts, the night includes workshops and lectures. The concert is free and open to all. For more info click here

Coulisses des Sciences 

Coulisses des Sciences is a week dedicated to different scientific themes, organized by Dealers de Science. The program of the event includes debates, conferences, a movie and debate night and more. As usual, the event will end with the Marché des Connaissances, a special fair taking place at Cour Mably that will reunite different scientific associations and players in the cultural scientific scene in Bordeaux. Truffles markets in Dordogne

January is the middle of winter truffles season with many truffles markets in the region taking place during the month. Dordogne is known as the capital of truffles of the Southwest of France and starting mid-December it hosts several truffles markets in its different villages. Festival Bouche à Bouche – Bordeaux

Following the success of the event in Paris, the Bouche à Bouche festival is arriving this year to Bordeaux for the first time. During the two nights of the event you will discover the signature dishes of five Bordeaux chefs like Jérôme Billot from Madame Pang and Julien Camdeborde of L’avant comptoir du palais. The event that will take place on January 17-18 also includes a lot of music, shows and street art. For more info click here.

La déferlante surf – last chance to see it

The Atlantic coast of the south-west of France is a popular destination for surfers these days and it looks like this sport has always been here. But did you know that surfing was actually introduced to Europe through our region in the 50s? Thus it only makes sense that Musée d’Aquitaine, which explores the history of the region, will also explore the surfing culture in Aquitaine. The déferlante surf exhibition deals with different aspects of surfing from the sport itself to its economic and environmental influences. Among others, the items presented include videos, sounds, different traditional objects, images from different beaches and more. The exhibition will be presented until January 5th. If you go to the museum on January 5th the entry will be free. For more details click here

Muséum de Bordeaux – Rire! 

According to scientific research, we laugh 18 times a day on average. Laughter, however, is not unique to us human beings, different animal species also have different expressions of laughter in their language. The super fun exhibition at the natural history museum in Bordeaux offers different activities that provoke laughter. It’s a very interactive and kids friendly exhibition that includes videos, sounds, games, and painting. This is your last chance to see the exhibition as it ends on January 26! Robots in Cap Science

Robots is a cool exhibition for kids presented these days at the Cap Science, the children science museum in Bordeaux. The exhibition is dedicated to robots and their functions in our lives. It will be presented until May 3, 2020. For more details and tickets click here.

Before we start with the weekend list, I want to take this chance to wish you all a Merry Christmas, a happy new year, and a happy Hanukkah 🙂 This is the official Christmas season so you probably won’t be surprised that most events this weekend are Christmas related. A traditional marionette theater

Guignol Guérin is the oldest family-run marionette theater in France. While their well-known show runs in the summer, the theater’s winter edition is only two years old and plays at the center of Bordeaux. Their traditional spectacle takes place in Théâtre l’Inox between December 26 and January 5. For more details click here.

Cinderella at the Opera

The ballet of Bordeaux will perform a special version of Cinderella for kids, with the choreography of the Birmingham Royal Ballet. The show will take place on Friday, December 27 at 15:00. You can purchase tickets here

Pintxo Gaua

Pintxo Gaua is a fun event taking place in Halles de Bacalan every last Friday of the month. As the name indicates, this event is all about Pintxos, with ingredients coming solely from the market. Finish your week this Friday (December 27) with Pintxos, some wine and a Dj set. For more info click here

Marché de Noël de Bordeaux 

The last days of the traditional Christmas market of Bordeaux will take place this weekend  (December 27-29). This is one of the biggest Christmas markets in the region with 150 pavilions selling all the traditional Christmas merchandise such as clothes, decorations, jewelry, toys and local products. Even if you don’t intend to buy any gifts at the market you can still enjoy the Christmas spirit with some hot wine and roasted chestnuts.  For more info click here.

Arcachon fête Noël

The city of Arcachon invites you to its traditional Christmas celebration with a Christmas market and an ice skating rink. The event will take place daily until January 5 on Place Thiers. For more details click here

Drôle de Noël in Talence

Noël à Langon

Mama’s Brunch

Another fun event this Sunday is Mama’s Brunch. Atelier Enfants Vacances | Dali Et Ses Rêves Surréalistes

Explore the main market in Bordeaux 

Capucins is the main market of Bordeaux and its a real treat for foodies with plenty of cafes, restaurants and stalls with local produce. If none of the events this weekend interest you, you can always spend your time there, sipping white wine with oysters from Arcachon. Discover the foodie streets of Bordeaux 

Staying in foodie mood, you can also explore some of the foodie streets in Bordeaux. These are the places where you can find the best bakeries, coffee shops, cheese shops and more. They are not always on the tourist trail and not always easy to find and that’s why I decided to write an article about the foodie streets of Bordeaux.

Go to one of Bordeaux’s museums

Last but not least, if it’s too cold outside, going to a museum is always a good idea! Bordeaux has a great variety of museums, from street art to science and history, just choose one from my list of museums in Bordeaux.

Now that it’s getting chilly and rainy outside it’s time to warm up with some good food and wine and enjoy the indoor festivals that Bordeaux has to offer. The chateaux of Margaux and Sauternes will host you at their properties and Darwin will introduce you to the organic wines of the region. There are quite a few music and dance events in November, among them the Bordeaux Piano festival and the Tango Festival at the Opera of Bordeaux. Vibrations Urbaines Festival in Pessac

This is the 22nd edition of the annual festival, Vibrations Urbaines, organized by the city of Pessac. The program is really cool and includes events like an international BMX contest, a skating contest, a hip hop dance battle, urban sports, workshops, street art exhibitions and more. The festival will take place from October 29 to November 3 in the campus area in Pessac. See all the events on the website or facebook page of the festival.

Bliss Yoga Festival

The Bliss Yoga festival will take place on November 8-10 in Darwin. The program of the festival includes 45 courses aiming to make you discover different types of yoga no matter what level you are. Although yoga is the main event, there will be other activities such as workshops, different information stands, a well-being space, a children’s area, a photography exhibition, organic products and more. Open doors in the Chateaux of Sauternes et Barsac

Sauternes et Barsac are two wine areas (appellation d’origine contrôlée) famous for their sweet white wines. On November 9-11 many of the wine producers of Sauternes and Barsac will open their doors to the public and give you an opportunity to discover thein estates and taste their wines. The program includes wine tastings, tours in the châteaux, gourmet food, concerts and activities for kids. The participating chateaux will be published later this month and I will laster add them to this article for you to have all the information you need. Halles de Bacalan – 2 years anniversary 

Halles de Bacalan invites you to celebrate their second anniversary with a super gourmand event on the weekend of November 8-10. This fun market is one of the best places for drinks with friends, especially on rainy weekends, so this event is guaranteed to be good. For more info check out the facebook page of the event.

Foire de la Saint Martin

Another fun place to visit on the long weekends of November is Duras. Foire de la Saint Martin will take place there on November 11 with more than 250 exhibitors and stands of local gastronomy, clothing, cars, a big vide Grenier and more. For more info click here

La Rochelle Swing festival 

If you were planning to go to La Rochelle in the near future, this is a good opportunity. On the long weekend of November 8-11 the LaRochelle swing festival will take place at the Lentrepot-Cabaret. For more details click here.

Montgolfiades de Saint-Emilion – this event was canceled

Montgolfiades is an annual festival of balloon flights organized by Le Ciel est à Toi association. The flights will take place on November 15-17 above Saint Emilion and the vineyards around it, so the sight is promised to be breathtaking. For more info click here.

Piano Festival

Festival L’esprit du Piano will take place at the Auditorium of the Opera of Bordeaux on November 13 – December 7. This magnificent festival hosts some important pianists (Grigory Sokolov, Jacky Terrasson and others), some of whom will collaborate with the National Orchestra of Bordeaux and the choir of the Opera of Bordeaux. Jazz Festival in Caudéran

The annual Jazz festival of Caudéran is taking place on November 14-16. For three nights, the Pergola Theater will host six international Jazz players. For more info about prices and the full program click here.

Margaux Saveurs 

The annual festival, Margaux Saveurs will take place on November 15-17. The idea of the festival is to make you discover the great wines of the Margaux appellation and present to you all the winemakers, merchants and restaurants of this gourmet area. During the weekend you can enjoy special workshops in the different wine domains and enjoy fun activities and special menus made only for this weekend. For more details click here. Bordeaux Cata Raid

The 7th edition of the Catamaran race will take place this weekend (November 19-20) in the Garonne river, just next to the central bank. This beautiful event, organized by the ‘les Marins de la Lune’ club includes tens of crew members that will pass next to the quai to honor the city. The view is guaranteed to be spectacular. For more details click here.

Salon Ob’Art

Le salon Ob’Art (Objets de créateur) is a creator fair with a rich pedagogic program of activities, workshops, and demonstrations. The motivation for the event is to create a dialog between artists, craftsmen and the wide public in order to transfer their know-how and to make the young generation discover a variety of professional vocations. Le Salon Ob’Art will take place in Hangar 14 (Quai des Chartrons) on November 15-17. Entry is free for kids under 18 and 6.5€ for adults (free on the first day). Festival Tango à l’Opéra Bordeaux

The third edition of the Festival Tango à l’Opéra will take place at the Grand Theatre of Bordeaux on November 22-24. The rich program includes shows, dance workshops, exhibitions and a big inauguration evening on November 22nd. For more details and tickets click here and the full program here

Organic Wine Market in Darwin 

Les Barriquades is the biggest market of bio wines in the region, an event that will take place on the weekend of November 23-24 in Darwin. On the menu, a huge selection of organic wines from Bordeaux, Saint Emilion and many other wine regions of France. The entry is free. For more info click here.

Lettres du monde

The literature festival, Lettres du monde, will take place on November 13-24 with lectures and debates in different venues across Bordeaux Metropole. Events will take place in libraries, schools, book stores, cinemas and more. You can enjoy this festival even if you don’t speak French as most of the writers participating in the lectures are coming from all over the world. For more details go here.

International History films festival

The theme of the 30th edition of the Festival international du film d’histoire of Pessac, taking place on November 18-25, is Latin America. The rich program of the festival includes debates and lectures with several historians as guests and screenings of more than a 100 movies, from classics to works of heritage, rare or unpublished films, previews, fiction and documentaries. les Journées Gourmandes Loupiac & Foie Gras

In the last twenty years, Loupiac has been hosting the Loupiac & Foie Gras event that allows people to get familiar with the sweet wines of Loupaic and meet the farmers of the department and taste their gourmet production. This year the event will take place on November 23-24 and will include workshops, guided tours in the participating chateaux, tastings, exhibitions and more. On Saturday evening a big gourmet cocktail event will be hosted by two chefs from the Maison Claude Darroze. Brocante des Quinconces

The big brocante of Bordeaux (antique/flea market) is hosted twice a year at place des Quinconces with 200 antique dealers, horticulturists, restaurants and craftsmen. This fall edition of the brocante will take place from November 22 to December 8. Although it’s quite upscale, you can find some fine antiques and vintage pieces at a bargain price. The Salon Bien-être

The big Well-being Fair of Bordeaux will take place on the weekend of November 29- December 1 at the Palais des Congrès. The event has 120 stands and  65 conferences all focused on different ways of improving the quality of life. The exhibitors are varied and come from all facets of daily life: food, home decor, therapies and beauty. For more info click here.

Sam Dougados exhibition

If you ever visited Biarritz you’ve surely seen the amazing works of Sam Dougados on the beach. Sam’s Beach art, as he calls it, has appeared in many places around the world, from Maroco to South Africa and Spain. Now l’Institut Bernard Magrez is presenting the photographs of his best works at their atelier that is dedicated to promoting local talent. The exhibition will be presented until November 24th. Le Règne des Dinosaures  – an exhibition for kids

A big dinosaurs exhibition for kids will be presented at the Hippodrome Bordeaux-Le Bouscat on October 19 – November 11. The exhibition space will be open every day during the school break and on November 6, 9-11 from 14:00 to 18:00. For more details click here

Robots in Cap Science

Robots is a cool exhibition for kids presented these days at the Cap Science, the children science museum in Bordeaux. The exhibition is dedicated to robots and their functions in our lives. It will be presented until May 3, 2020. For more details and tickets click here.

Although summer is officially over I was happy to see that many of the events taking place in October in Bordeaux are still outdoors. One of the most beautiful ones is definitely the hot air balloon festival in Saint Emilion. Other interesting events include the international art festival, a swing festival, Space month and more.

La Grande Transhumance Urbaine

Don’t be surprised if on the first weekend of October you’ll suddenly see plenty of sheep crossing your street, that’s the Grande Transhumance Urbaine. The idea behind the event that will take place on October 6th is to connect city people to agriculture. Seven breeders and their sheep will lead the 9 km march passing through different locations in Villenave d’Ornon. You can enjoy the festival even if you don’t want to make the walk, just attend the events at one of the points on the way. FAB – International art festival

FAB is the annual International art festival of Bordeaux Metropole taking place this year on October 4-20. As one of Europe’s biggest art festivals, it attracts some known names from the international contemporary art scene. During the three weeks of the festival, more than 30 shows will take place in more than 20 different locations in Bordeaux, from the TnBA theater to the Opera of Bordeaux and the CAPC. Space month 

The city of Mérignac will host a whole month dedicated to space discovery with workshops, exhibitions, conferences, parties and more. Here’s a sneak peek at the rich program they offer in October:
ASTRALALA exhibition – a fun exhibition for kids that will allow them to learn a lot about astronomy through a journey in the solar system – October 2-23  at the Médiathèque de Mérignac.
A visit at the planetarium – October 7 at MJC Mérignac Centre
L’Espace en fête – an afternoon space party with plenty of activities for kids – October 5 at Côté sciences Air&Espace.

Nuit des Bibliothèques

La Nuit des Bibliothèques will take place on October 12, and it’s the best opportunity to discover the libraries across the city. 24 libraries in 20 different towns in Bordeaux Metropole will participate in this event and will offer such activities as concerts, theater shows, science workshops, games for kids and more. Festival Animasia

Animasia is a festival of Asian pop culture bringing together many elements like J-POP music, Yosakoi dance, karaoke and Cosplay performances. The place will also include thematic areas with martial arts, video games, board games and more. The festival will take place on the weekend of October 12-13 at the Parc des Expositions. Village des Sciences

As part of the Fête de la Science events this month, Cap Sciences invites you this weekend (October 12-13) to the Science village. This year the village will be all about robots and the place they take in our day to day life. The program includes two exhibitions, several competitions, demonstrations of different robots, workshops, conferences and more. See the full program here and for more details here. Lire en Poche – books festival 

Lire en Poche is a pocketbooks festival that will take place in Gradignan on October 11-13. Besides a huge book sale, a wide range of activities are offered to the participants, among them: reading sessions, theater shows, music, games, workshops for kids and more. The entrance to the festival is free, however, some activities are paid and/or require prior reservation, which will start on October 5 at 8:00 – click here to register.  For more info click here.

Fête du Vin nouveau et de la Brocante

On the last weekend of this month (October 19-20) the Chartrons neighborhood invites you to celebrate Autumn with a new wine festival and a brocante. During these two days, the main street in Chartrons, rue Notre-Dame , will be transformed into a brocante with wine stands and roasted chestnuts. Come and spend a festive weekend on one of the most interesting streets in Bordeaux. For more info click here.

Bordeaux Swing Festival

The international festival of Lindy hop (part of the Swing family) will take place on October 18-20 in the Bordeaux region and this year their main guests are Jonathan Stout and his campus five and Hot Swing Sextet. Two swing parties will take place at the beautiful le Rocher de Palmer in Cenon, with a battle between the two bands. The program of the festival also includes 7 hours of classes with 11 international teachers. For more details check out the website of the festival.

FIFIB- Bordeaux international festival of independent movies

Bordeaux Independent Films Festival will take place on October 15-21 at Rue Malby in the center of Bordeaux. The program includes film screenings, concerts and meeting with special guests. Every evening, the festival village will transform into an open cinema theater and a dance floor. The event is free and open for all. Open doors in the Chateaux of Graves

Graves, one of the wine regions in the Bordeaux wine area, invites you to an open doors weekend, allowing you to discover its wines and châteaux. During the weekend (October 19-20) 67 châteaux will open their doors to visits, wine tastings, wine workshops and different activities for kids and adults. Foire aux Plaisirs

This is the fall edition of the traditional Bordelais Fair that is taking place at Place des Quinconces from October 11 to November 3. It’s a perfect activity for kids and for those who are young in spirit as La Foire aux Plaisirs de Bordeaux has it all: a big wheel, roller coasters, ghost trains, bumper cars, donuts, crèpes, candyfloss and more. The fair is open daily from 14:00, you are not required to pay any entry fee, only for some of the attractions. See more info about the fair here.

Les Rendez-vous des Polichineuses – a vintage sale

“Les Rendez-vous des Polichineuses” is coming back for yet another edition of second-hand chic. The big vintage sale will take place in Chartrons on October 1-26 hosting many vintage merchants with furniture, toys, art and plenty of accessories. For more details click here.

Les Campulsations

Les Campulsations is a students festival taking place from September 26 to October 5, celebrating the beginning of the new academic year in different locations in the Aquitaine region: Bordeaux, Talence, Pessac, Gradignan, Bayonne, Périgueux, Agen and Pau. In Bordeaux Metropole, the events will take place in many different locations from university campuses to museums and theaters. The program is varied and includes such events as a brocante party, music concerts, theater shows, exhibitions and more. Check out the full program and find an event near you.

Tauzia Fête les Jardins

Tauzia fête les Jardins is one of the most beautiful plant celebrations in the south of France. The fifth edition of this fantastic event in Gradignan will take place on October 25-27. A three-day event that gathers plants growers, professional gardeners, landscape architects and artists. The rich program of the festival includes plenty of workshops, conferences, activities for kids such as painting and music in the garden, creating a bamboo palisade, creating a herbarium, plastic art in the garden for kids and more. BLIB – the beer festival of Bordeaux 

This is the 5th edition of Bordeaux’s beer festival taking place from October 29 to November 2. During the five days of the festival, you can attend and participate in plenty of activities around craft beer in cellars, bars, restaurants and breweries. The grand finale of the festival (November 2) will gather all the brewers in one event. Check out the facebook page of the event for more info.

Fête du Piment d’Espelette

Piment d’Espelette is the red pepper that decorates every market in the Basque country and every shop selling Basque products. Like every important ingredient in the French kitchen, this little pepper needs a “fête”. Fête du Piment d’Espelette is taking place on October 26-27 in the beautiful village of Espelette. The program includes a big parade, a huge market with more than 200 stands of basque products, musical concerts, activities for kids, a mass with the choir of Espelette and more.
I know it’s technically not in the region but I love everything about the Basque country and it’s just two hours away so consider going anyway 🙂 For more details click here

Argentina, Terres de contrastesexhibition

Several times a year the Cite du Vin puts one country on the spot and dedicates an exhibition to honor its wine and gastronomic heritage. This time the chosen country is Argentina, to which Cite du Vin dedicated its current temporary exhibition, Argentina, Terres de Contrastes. The exhibition takes you through a journey in six wine regions in Argentina, exploring their history, gastronomy and culture in an interactive way. The exhibition will be presented until November 17. My main event this weekend was supposed to be the hot air balloon festival in Saint Emilion, but it was unfortunatelly canceled due to bad weahter 🙁
But let’s be positive and focus on all the other excellent events that are about to take place this weekend, among them the open doors weekend in Graves, the wine and Brocante festival in Bordeaux and the Bordeaux swing festival. Zombie walk de Bordeaux

The Zombie Walk of Bordeaux is probably one of the best ways to get into the Halloween spirit. The walk will take place this Saturday (October 19) and will have the theme of “superhero zombies”. The event will start at 14:00 at Place de la Victoire. For more info click here.

Mascaret festival Occitan de Bordeaux

Mascaret is an annual festival of Occitan culture in Bordeaux. Every weekend during the fall there are concerts and markets taking place in different places in Bordeaux to celebrate the Occitan culture. Le salon du Bien-Etre de Cenon

Jazz weekend

Foire aux Plaisirs

This is the fall edition of the traditional Bordelais Fair taking place at Place des Quinconces from October 11 to November 3. It’s a perfect activity for kids and those who are young in spirit as La Foire aux Plaisirs de Bordeaux has it all: a big wheel, roller coasters, ghost trains, bumper cars, donuts, crèpes, candyfloss and more. The fair is open daily from 14:00, you are not required to pay any entry fee, only for some of the attractions. See more info about the fair here.

Le Règne des Dinosaures  – an exhibition for kids

A big dinosaurs exhibition for kids will be presented at the Hippodrome Bordeaux-Le Bouscat on October 19 – November 11. The exhibition space will be open every day during the school break and on November 6, 9-11 from 14:00 to 18:00. For more details click here

Marché des Producteurs

Le Salon d’Automne

This summer was all about music festivals, Autumn however brings a variety of events to Bordeaux. The big climax festival in Darwin, the European patrimony days, a Latin music festival and the Velotour are only some of the things to do this month in Bordeaux.

Climax Festival 

The Climax festival taking place in Darwin focuses on environmental issues and climate change. Conferences and debates will take place throughout the four day festival (September 5-8) and will be accompanied by art and cultural events. Every night, a rich lineup of electronic music will make the festival more attractive and dynamic. This is one of the biggest festivals in the center of Bordeaux located in one of the hippest places in the city. Take a look at the site of the festival for the full program.

Medoc Marathon

Running 42km is only a small part of the Medoc Marathon experience. It’s mostly about enjoying great wine, food and the great scenery. No wonder that it’s considered the longest marathon in the world. This year the marathon will take place in the vineyards of the Médoc region on September 7 and will include plenty of activities such as: musical breaks, wine tasting stops and eating a steak at the 39th km!! You don’t have to run to enjoy this event, many activities will take place on the day of the marathon and the day before, follow the program here.  For more info check out the website of the marathon.

Get to know your neighbors at the Pique-nique des Quartiers 

Do you ever feel like you have no idea who is living around you? Then this is your chance to socialize a bit with your neighbors. On September 6, Pique-nique des quartiers with take place all around Bordeaux. The picnics are organized by the local associations operating in the neighborhoods. Find the event near you in the list published by the town hall.

Bordeaux Food-truck Festival

The food truck festival aims to mix street food with the finesse of the wine world. The program of the festival also includes free concerts, exhibitions, escape games, activities for kids and more. The next event will take place on September 7-8 at the Château de Rayne-Vigneau in the Sauternes appellation. The events are free but require a reservation – you can do it here. Ouvre La Voix Festival

Ouvre La Voix Festival gives you the opportunity to discover the beautiful Entre-Deux-Mers region in Gironde in a special way. The three-day program of the festival (September 7-8) combines concerts, wine, and gastronomy with biking routes taking you to places like Créon, Frontenac, Sauveterre de Guyenne and more. Concerts and gastronomy events will take place in the towns on the bike trail. Most of the concerts are free, some activities (including the shuttle from Bordeaux to Créon) require a reservation. Vélotour Bordeaux

Vign’ en Ville

This is the 4th edition of Vign en Ville, an event dedicated to the know-how of winemaking. During the weekend of September 14-15, winemakers from the Bienvenue à la ferme network will teach you all about wine production through a series of workshops and activities. Vélotour Bordeaux

Did you ever ride a bike in a museum or a hotel? Discover Bordeaux by bike through places where usually bicycles are not allowed: museums, sports centers, cultural and historic places and more. Festival Love Tattoo Urban Street

The Love Tattoo Urban Street festival will take place on September 14-15 at the Parc des Expositions in Bassin d’Arcachon. In the program tattoos, creative market, concerts, fashion, workshops for kids and more. For more info click here

The big scooter race

The Nire Laguna Thomas association organized a wonderful event to help raise funds for research on pediatric cancer. A kids scooter race will take place on September 14 on the Quai of Bordeaux, starting from la Maison Eco-citoyenne. More than 300 kids, ages 5 to 10 will take place in the event. If you want your kids to participate in the race, register here.

Journées Européennes du Patrimoine

The European Heritage Days are a great opportunity to discover some of Bordeaux’s most beautiful and interesting buildings. During the weekend of September 21-22 many public and private edifices will open their doors to the public and allow you to peak into parts of this city’s history otherwise hidden from our daily view. Some of the most interesting places to visit during the weekend are: the Opera of Bordeaux, Grosse Cloche, Tribunal de grande instance de Bordeaux and many more. Festival Arts Mêlés

Arts Mêlés is a festival of magic and supernatural experiences organized by the town of Eysines. As always the program is full of magic shows, illusionists, acrobats and more making it super fun for kids. The event is free and will take place on the weekend of September 21-22 . Latin Music Festival 

Corazon Latino, a Latin Music and dance festival will take place this weekend (September 20-22) in Rocher de Palmer in Cenon. The Program includes music concerts, dance shows, three Latin parties and international dancers that came especially to teach you some moves. And of course plenty of Salsa , Bachata, Kizomba, Chacha, Semba, Tango, Lady Styling and Forró. For more info and tickets to some of the concerts check out the website of the event.

Festival Cadences d’Arcachon

Festival Cadence is a famous dance festival taking place every year in Arcachon. The program of the festival is known for its diversity including classic, contemporary, hip-hop, flamenco and more. Open Air Festival

Bordeaux Open Air continues into September with more cool electronic music parties at different locations in the city center. The next events of the Open Air Festival will take place on September 8, September 15 and September 29. The exact locations have not been published yet. They will be announced here together with lineups and other details.

Les Campulsations

Les Campulsations is a students festival, celebrating the beginning of the new academic year in different locations in the Aquitaine region: Bordeaux, Talence, Pessac, Gradignan, Bayonne, Périgueux, Agen and Pau. In Bordeaux Metropole, the events will take place in many different locations from university campuses to museums and theaters. The program is varied and includes such events as a brocante party, music concerts, theater shows, exhibitions and more. Check out the full program and find an event near you. The festival will take place from September 26 to October 5.

Salon ABC Kidz

A big event dedicated to future parents and young families will take place on September 28 – 29 in Hangar 14. Salon ABC kids is the annual gathering of all the important companies and organizations related to babies and little kids from clothing to room decoration, toys and different services like childcare companies and health providers. The event allows young parents to meet all the relevant products and services in one place. Many activities will take place at the Salon to make it more entertaining, among them a massage space, workshops for kids, soft play for toddlers and more. For tickets and more info click here.

Classical music in the Cathedral

Dance at la guingette chez Alriq

La Guinguette chez Alriq is a tavern at the Bastide neighborhood, on the rive droite of the Garonne. During the summer the place is full with locals who escape the more touristy rive gauche and come to enjoy live concerts on the river bank. The Guinguette is open from Thursday to Sunday. On the beach, in the forest, on the riverfront or in the park, no matter where you go in August, there will be music everywhere! We have a big festival in the forest of South Gironde, a reggae festival in Medoc, an Oysters festival in Cap Ferret and more. Like always, all the big summer events such as  dancing and sports on the quai are going to continue throughout most of August. Here’s the list of things to do in Bordeaux in August 2019.

Dance on the Quai

Dansons sur les Quais is a series of dancing classes and events where people gather to dance together and learn a variety of dance genres like Tango, Salsa, Bollywood, Forro, Hip Hop, Street Jazz, Zumba, Country and more. These activities will be guided by professional dancers from different dance schools in Bordeaux and they are completely free, so this is a great opportunity you don’t want to miss. The dancing events will take place on the quai almost daily from mid- July to mid – August. For more details and the full program check out the website of Dansons sur les Quai.

Reggae Sun Ska music festival

The 22nd edition of this fun reggae festival will take place at the Domaine Equestre de Nodri in Vertheuil, which is located in the Medoc area (about an hour drive from Bordeaux) on the first weekend of August (2-4). Fête de la Presqu’île in Cap Ferret

Every year in August Lege Cap Ferret celebrates its oyster farming with a big event called Fête de la Presqu’île. The three day event includes plenty of oysters, concerts, activities for kids and fireworks on the last night. The event will take place on August 2-4 in Claouey. For more info click here.

Festival Musicalarue

The Musicalarue is a big music festival taking place in Luxey (about an hour drive from Bordeaux) on August 15-17.  The lineup includes a very long list of artists and bands, including some big names such as Orelsan, Patti Smith and Patrick Bruel – to see the full program click here. Bordeaux Food-truck Festival

If you like the Bordeaux food truck festival events, you’ll be happy to hear that another one is coming up on August 10-11. The food truck festival aims to mix street food with the finesse of the wine world. Visitors can taste the wines of the hosting châteaux and the specialties of food coming from all corners of the world: French, Italian, Brazilian and many more. The program of the festival also includes free concerts, exhibitions, escape games, activities for kids and more. One of the events will take place on August 10-11 at the Maison du Tourisme in Pauillac. The events are free but require prior reservation – you can do it here. For more details click here.

The Fest’Arts Festival

A three day celebration of street art will take place on August 8-9 in Libourne. The Fest’Arts festival was created almost 30 years ago to honor street performing artists. The center of Libourne will be turned into a big promenade and plenty of performances will take place on the pretty streets of the city. Check out the full program here

Les Fêtes de la Mer in Arcachon 

It’s that time of the year when sailors and Arcachon lovers gather to celebrate the sea with les Fêtes de la Mer. During two days you can enjoy plenty of activities in the center of Arcachon, from music concerts on the beach to flee markets and a huge picnic. It’s also a religious event so a few big masses will be held on both days. For more info click here

Les Odyssées

Les Odyssées is a free stage arts festival taking place every year in Ambès, about 30 minutes from Bordeaux. The festival will take place on August 24 at Parc de Cantefrène. Check out the full program here

Festival Musical’Ocean 2019

Festival Musical’Ocean is a classical music festival taking place at Lacanau-Ocean, a beautiful coastal town, about an hour drive from Bordeaux. Bordeaux Open Air

Bordeaux Open Air is a series of free summer electronic music events, all set in different locations and with a great city vibe to them. Every event is dedicated to a different country and hosts its DJ’s for sets of electronic music. After a few successful events in July, the festival continues into August with parties taking place on August 11th, 18th and 25th. The summer pavilion on the right side of the river

Enjoy the summer parties of the Orangeade association at the Quai Deschamps (in the Bastide neighborhood). Like every year their free summer events include concerts, workshops, activities for kids and more. The events take place every Friday (18:00 – 01:00) and Saturday (12:00 to 01:00) from July 5th to August 31. For more details click here.

Bordeaux Metropolitan Summer

Like every year Bordeaux Metropolitan invites you to discover the city and the area around it through a series of cultural events and activities. More than 100 activities of music, dance, public reading, theater, circus and gastronomy will take place between June 20 and August 31. These events are so widely spread across the metropolitan area of Bordeaux that you are guaranteed to discover places (especially parks) that you have never heard of before: Parc d’Observation in Floirac, Parc du Viver in Merignac, Parc Camponac in Pessac and many more. Quai des Sports

This is the 11th edition of this fun sportive event that takes place every summer (July 13 to August 11) at the Parc des sports Saint Michel. The program includes a variety of sportive activities such as a fitness night, beach volleyball, basketball, BMX, beach wrestling and more. The festival will be accompanied by artistic and music events. Many of the activities are aimed for kids and teenagers and are a perfect solution for entertaining them in the center of Bordeaux during the summer.  Check the full program here.

Puppet Theater for Kids

Le Guignol Guérin, founded in 1853, is the oldest puppetry show in France with daily spectacles for kids in Parc Bordelais during the summer  (July and August). The show usually starts at 16:00 but can be canceled or postponed when it’s raining or getting too hot. Read more about the theater here.

La Bataille de Castillon

La Bataille de Castillon is a spectacle taking place during more than 10 evenings in the summer, replicating the famous fight from 1453. Castillon-la-Bataille, the town where the show takes place also hosts many activities and events revolving the big show: tours of the city, exhibitions and workshops of medieval art and more. Garden Party – on one of the nicest terasses of Bordeaux 

A nice collaboration is taking place this summer between Frida, a restaurant with a beautiful inside garden, and the French Gin producer G’Vine Gin. Every Sunday during the summer a cocktail party takes place at Frida, with a selection of special cocktails and a discount price of 6 euros for Gin and Tonic. For more info click here.

Now that the French ‘vacances’ are knocking on the door, Bordeaux is officially turning into one big music, dance and art festival. Starting July, plenty of festivals will take place all over the metropole. You can go dancing on the quai, listen to free music concerts on the other side of the Garone or listen to classical music concerts in different locations around Bordeaux. The summer pavilion on the right side of the river

Like every summer in the last five years, the Orangeade association opens its summer pavilion on le Quai Deschamps (in the Bastide neighborhood) with live concerts every Friday (18:00 – 01:00) and Saturday (12:00 to 01:00). These events, however, are not just music concerts but rather a place for friends and families to spend the weekend with yoga classes, creative workshops, activities for kids and more. The events will take place throughout the summer from July 5 to August 31 and are free. For the specific program of each event, follow my weekend posts about what to do in Bordeaux. Bordeaux Metropolitan Summer

Like every year Bordeaux Metropolitan invites you to discover the city and the area around it through a series of cultural events and activities. More than 100 activities of music, dance, public reading, theater, circus and gastronomy will take place between June 20 and August 31. These events are so widely spread across the metropolitan area of Bordeaux that you are guaranteed to discover places (especially parks) that you have never heard of before: Parc d’Observation in Floirac, Parc du Viver in Merignac, Parc Camponac in Pessac and many more. Summer Sales

Soldes d’été are six weeks in the summer during which you can find really good deals on clothes, shoes, electric supplies, toys and more. Les soldes d’été will take place from June 26 to August 6.

Zinefest

Zinefest is a festival dedicated to comics, illustrations, photography and poetry. The festival includes several expositions and concerts by both French and international artists and will take place in several venues in the south of Bordeaux. Check out the full program of events here.

Jalles House Rock

Le Jalles House Rock is one of the biggest rock festivals in Gironde that annually proposes a rich program of local and international acts. The goal of the festival is to share the love for rock music with as many people as possible and that’s why the entrance is free (they do however encourage you to donate to the Estran association that organizes the event). This year the festival in Saint-Médard-en-Jalles takes place on July 4-6. For more details check out the website of the festival.

Festival Rues et Vous

This is the 12th edition of Festival Rue et Vous , a performance arts festival that takes place every year in the charming medieval town of Rions. This year the festival will take place on July 5-7 and will include a rich program of theater, dance, circus and music shows for both adults and kids. Summer of Music in Medoc

Les Estivales de Musique en Medoc is the only music festival in France dedicated exclusively to young laureates of international competitions.  The festival was created in 2003 to discover new talents in classical music. The concerts are hosted in some of the most prestigious châteaux in the Medoc area and are followed by wine tastings. The concerts will take place on July 3-12. See the full program here.

Celebrate the French National Day

July 14th is the French national day which is celebrated in every city in France. Like every year, Bordeaux will hold a series of popular events and parties, the main ones are:

14 Juillet Bordeaux
  • Military parade at Quai des Chartrons –  18:30
  • The traditional dance party at Placette de Munich – Quai Louis XVIII (in front of Quinconces) – 20:30
  • Fireworks show above the Garonne river between Pont de Pierre and Place de la Bourse – 22:45

Apart from the traditional national day events, plenty of other parties will take place on July 13-14 to celebrate this day. Follow the blog for updates.

Bordeaux Food-truck Festival

This is the biggest gathering of food trucks in the region of Nouvelle Aquitaine. Tens of different food trucks will be spread around the Gironde department in five events that will take place between June and September. This festival aims to mix street food with the finesse of the wine world. As part of this gastronomic event, visitors can taste the wines of the hosting châteaux and the specialties of food coming from all corners of the world: French, Italian, Brazilian and many more. The program of the festival also includes free concerts, exhibitions, escape games, activities for kids and more. This month two food truck events will take place in the Medoc region.

Les Nouvelles Saisons – music festival

Les Nouvelles Saisons is a classic music festival taking place in Bordeaux on July 16-25 in three locations: Cour Mably, Cathédrale de Bordeaux and la Grande Poste. The festival was created by the violoncellist Jeremy Genet and the composer Christian Lauba offering a great variety of musical styles (baroque, romantic, modern and more). La Bataille de Castillon

La Bataille de Castillon is a spectacle taking place during more than 10 evenings in the summer, replicating the famous fight from 1453. Castillon-la-Bataille, the town where the show takes place also hosts many activities and events revolving the big show: tours of the city, exhibitions and workshops of medieval art and more. Braderie d’été

Every summer the main streets of Bordeaux are getting filled with stands of clothes, shoes, toys, house supplies and more – this is the Bordeaux summer Braderie. If you’re in town for winter sales take the opportunity to check out the stands of more than 250 merchants on rue Porte Dijeaux, rue Sainte Catherine and rue des Trois Conils. The Braderie will take place on July 17-20. For more details click here.

Arcachon En Scene

Archachon en Scene is a popular music festival that brings big French and international acts to perform in this beautiful town. This year’s program includes Amir and Kimberose (July 29) and GIMS  (August 2). For more info check out the facebook page of the event, for tickets click here.

Bordeaux Open Air

Bordeaux Open Air is a series of free summer electronic music events, all set in different locations and with a great city vibe to them. Every event is dedicated to a different country and hosts its DJ’s for sets of electronic music. The first event this summer will take place on June 30 at Square Dom Bedos and the second one on July 7 at Jardin public. The locations of the following events have not been published yet. Quai des Sports

This is the 11th edition of this fun sportive event that takes place every summer (July 13 to August 11) at the Parc des sports Saint Michel.  The program this month includes a variety of sportive activities such as a fitness night, beach volleyball, basketball, BMX, beach wrestling and more. The festival will be accompanied by artistic and music events. Many of the activities are aimed for kids and teenagers and are a perfect solution for entertaining them in the center of Bordeaux during the summer.  Check the full program here.

Puppet Theater for Kids

Le Guignol Guérin, founded in 1853, is the oldest puppetry show in France with daily spectacles for kids in Parc Bordelais during the summer  (July and August). The show usually starts at 16:00 but can be canceled or postponed when it’s raining or getting too hot. Read more about the theater here.

Two street art exhibitions

Two amazing street art exhibitions are going to presented at the Institut Bernard Magrez throughout the summer. The first one (from May 28 to September 1st) is called Instincts, an exhibition by Mika which is one of Bordeaux’s most prominent street artists. The other one (July 5 – October 6) is an exhibition by one of the most famous street artists in the world, Seth (Julien Mallard) who also happens to be French. For more details click here.

Rivages et Vertigo Sea – a new exhibition

The Base sous marine is hosting a new and intriguing exhibition starting June 21. It is, in fact, a combination of two exhibitions addressing the themes of sea and shore. Rivages is a photography exhibition by the artist Harry Gruyaert and VertigoSea is a video installation by the director John Akomfrah. For more information about the exhibition click here.

Dance at la guingette chez Alriq

La Guinguette chez Alriq is a tavern at the Bastide neighborhood, on the rive droite of the Garonne. During the summer the place is full with locals who escape the more touristy rive gauche and come to enjoy live concerts on the river bank. The Guinguette is open from Thursday to Sunday. There are several important events related to wine about to take place this May in Bordeaux. One of them is the Open doors in the chateaux of Saint Emilion, a great opportunity to visit this magical village. Open doors in Saint-Emilion

An open door weekend will take place on May 4-5 in Saint Emilion where 81 wine producers will open their chateaux to the public. The weekend will include many activities such as wine tastings, visits to the chateaux, games for kids and bike rides. The opening of La Guinguette chez Alriq

The best place for sunny weekends in Bordeaux is about to reopen for their summer season. La Guinguette chez Alriq is a taverne at the la Bastide neighborhood, on the rive droite of the Garonne. On a sunny day you can enjoy a cold beer, nice food and daily concerts with a magnificent view of the Garonne. The opening night will take place on May 2 with a concert of Bojan Krstic. Let your kids discover the art of circus at the Jubil’à Jongle festival

The 13th edition of the festival will start with an inauguration evening on May 3, which will include magic and fire shows, different activities for kids and even a rock concert. On the second day of the festival (May 4), you will discover the art of circus and street entertainment through shows of Juggling, magic, games and introductory workshops. The festival will take place at the Parc de Fongravey in Blanquefort. For more info click here.

Search for beautiful antiques at the Brocante

The big brocante of Bordeaux is hosted twice a year at place des Quinconces with 200 antique dealers, horticulturists, restaurants and craftsmen. It’s the biggest brocante event in the area and the selection is huge, from vintage home decor, to paintings, antique furniture, garden accessories and more. The brocante started on April 19 and will continue until May 5. For more info and the list of exhibitors click here.

Bordeaux Tango Festival

The 7th edition of the Bordeaux Tango Festival will take place on May 7-12. This hot festival connects Bordeaux and the place where Tango was born, Buenos Aires. A variety of activities will be offered to celebrate the link between these two cities, such as dance, music, art, literature and even food. Most of the events will take place in Espace St. Remi and Rocher Palmer in Cenon. See the program of the festival.

Vinexpo Bordeaux

Vinexpo is one of the most famous wine-related events in Bordeaux, intended for professionals in the wine world. The program includes master classes, wine tastings, conferences, and networking events. The fair will take place at the Parc des Expositions de Bordeaux on May 13-16. European Museums Night

On May 18 some of the best museums and cultural establishments in Bordeaux will open their doors to the public with free exhibitions and activities. This year the event will have a 90’s vibe to it and the organizers encourage you to dress up in a 90’s style: so pull out your high jeans and too colorful clothes, you know the drill :). Besides exhibitions, the museums will host lots of kids friendly activities, concerts and more. See the full list of museums and events here.

Big Bang – Air and Space Festival

The Big Bang festival in Saint-Médard-en-Jalles will take place on May 14-18. This year the cultural and scientific festival is dedicated to the moon. The program includes art and science exhibitions, conferences, films, concerts and much more. Check out the full program of the event.

Le Marché des créateurs

The 29th edition of the creators market (Marché des créateurs) will take place on May 18-19 at Place Camille Jullian (next to Utopia cinema). This market proposes a great variety of items giving everyone a chance to find something fitting their tastes and budget: clothes, accessories, jewelry, decorations, kids accessories, toys and more.  For more details check out the facebook page of the event.

Belem, the famous French vessel arrives to Bordeaux

Belem, the oldest big French vessel (launched in 1896, 51 meters long) will arrive in Bordeaux for five days and will be open to the public. The beautiful ship, classified as a historic monument, will dock at Quai Richelieu on May 16-20. Follow the facebook page of Belem for updates about the hours you can visit the vessel.

Go to a secret event at the Festival de Caves

Festival de Caves (the Cellars festival) is an underground theater festival, gathering a small number of spectators in cellars and other underground places throughout the city. In Bordeaux, the festival will take place on May 11-25 and will run the whole month of May in different cities in Aquitaine. The festival will premier on May 11 (at 18:30) at the Maison Cantonale. Festival Echappée Belle in Blanquefort

The Echappée Belle festival is a great entertaining event for the whole family merging theater, dance, circus and other forms of art. The festival will take place from May 23-26 in Blanquefort, starting in Parc Majolan and continuing for the weekend in Parc de Fongravey.  See the full program here.

Grand Crus Weekend

One of the most anticipated events in Bordeaux’s wine world is the Grand Crus Weekend that will take place on May 23-26. This event, organized by the Union des Grands Crus (the regional wine classification), aims to create an international meeting of wine lovers. The highlights of this weekend will include tasting wines from over 110 Grand Crus and meeting different chateaux owners as part of pre-organized dinners in the châteaux. Take your kids to an  inflatable water park in Biscarrosse

The huge inflatable water park in Biscarrosse (about an hour drive from Bordeaux) is about to reopen for the Summer at the beginning of May. The AquaPark is equipped with water ziplines, several diving boards of different heights, trampolines, catapults, climbing walls, slides and more. The park is accessible to kids over 4 years old. Enjoy a cocktail party on the Iboat

The Iboat, mostly known as a concert venue, is a three-level ferry spanning 687m2, anchored to one of the docks of Bassins a flot. One of the special features of the place is the Upper deck where events and exhibitions are held during the evenings. Every Wednesday at 19:00 the Iboat hosts the SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE, an after-work party with very creative cocktails :).  For this and other events taking place at the Iboat click here.

Quatre tendances – Dance show

Quatre tendances is a collaboration between several ballets groups and choreographers. Like every two years,  Quatre tendances will take the stage for several nights to perform a number of contemporary choreographies. This year the national ballet of Bordeaux will collaborate with Ballet Preljocaj – CCN d’Aix-en-Provence, le Malandain Ballet Biarritz and le CCN-Ballet de l’Opéra National du Rhin. Four choreographies will be performed during nine shows, taking place on May 22-31. For more details and tickets click here.

Last chance to see the D’un soleil à l’autre exhibition

In the D’un soleil à l’autre exhibition artists present their poetic journey in space. Aspects like elastic distances, weightlessness, dazzling, infinitely large landscapes and incandescent materials are beautifully translated into contemporary digital art. La Base sous marine is known for the phenomenal use of their unique space for art, so don’t miss this one. The exhibition will be presented at the museum until May 19. For more info click here.

When art and design take on glass

A new temporary exhibition was inaugurated at the Cité du Vin in March. The exhibition beautifully combines the wine and glass worlds. It includes the works of several glass designers who all modified and reinvented wine glasses and bottles. For more details click here.

Les chōchin du Japon- exhibition

This is the last chance to see the Les chōchin du Japon exhibition at the Musée des art décoratifs that is dedicated to special lamps that were declared a “traditional craft knowledge” in Japan. The exhibition will be presented at the museum until May 19. For more info click here.

Festins – a funky exhibition at the Bernard Magrez Cultural Institute

Yet another great exhibition is presented these days at the Institut Bernard Magrez. Festins is an exhibition by two artists, Gérard RANCINAN  and Caroline GAUDRIAULT, that have been working together in the last 20 years and have now agreed to present their works at the museum. For more details click here.   The exhibition will be presented at the institute until June 9.
