Many cool events are taking place in Bordeaux this weekend. For the foodies among you, we have the Basque food fair and a farmers’ market in a fancy chateau. Also, you can enjoy a headphones party, a posters fair in Darwin, a kids’ book salon and more. Here’s the list of things to do this weekend in Bordeaux (March 22-24).

Les Basques à Bordeaux

A big celebration of Basque food and culture will take place in Bordeaux (Hangar 14) on April 28-29. The event will include plenty of food stands featuring all the traditional basque products such as piment d’Espelette, jambon de Bayonne, les pintxos de Guipuzcoa, the famous Bayonne chocolate, regional wines and more. The cultural program includes concerts, different activities of crafts and sports as well as cooking workshops. For more details click here.

Salon International du Disque de Bordeaux

The international salon of vinyl and cd records of Bordeaux will take place March 23-24 in the Parc des Expositions. It’s the 59th edition of this festival that brings together 80 exhibitors from France and abroad and proposes all genres of music: rock, pop, soul, jazz, punk, reggae and more. Le marché des producteurs in a château

The famous Château Pape Clément invites you this Sunday (March 24) to their first farmers’ market of the year. The event will include free wine tasting (the Bernard Magrez wine), for which you have to reserve a spot (for reservations call 05 57 26 38 34). For more details click here.

Carnaval d’Arcachon

This is the weekend of the big Carnival of Arcachon taking place on Sunday (March 24). The event starts in the morning at Place des Marquises with shows and activities for kids. In the afternoon (15:00) a grand parade will take place on the streets of the city (the route: casino de la plage, boulevard de la plage, rue du Maréchal de Lattre de Tassigny, cours Lamarque, avenue Gambetta, boulevard de la plage, place des Marquises). Village Festival – Posters sale

The European short film festival will start in Bordeaux in a week ( see more details about the event in my post on things to do in March). This Sunday (March 24), Darwin will open the Festival village with a big sale of movie posters. The event will also include stands and activities related to board games, virtual reality and more. La Fête des Ruches à Bordeaux !

la Ruche qui dit Oui is a big French association that organizes local markets all over France, allowing you to buy products directly from farmers. This Saturday (March 23) the association invites you to celebrate sustainable food at a party that will take place at La soupe au caillou. The event will include music, workshops, exhibitions and tastings of local products that will be introduced by the farmers themselves. For more details click here.

Gaspi’Halles

Halles de Bacalan invites you this Saturday (March 23) to a day of responsible food. The Gaspi’Halles event will include a workshop where you will learn how to reuse your food for other dishes, a workshop about compost, meeting with ecological startups and games for kids. Vide-dressing for charity

This Saturday (March 23) a big second-hand sale will take place at the Maison Rose. The sale will include everything from clothing to bags, shoes, stylish accessories and more. The profits from the sale will go to La Maison Rose, an association supporting women diagnosed with cancer. For more details click here.

Salon du livre jeunesse

The 18th edition of the kids’ books salon will take place this weekend (March 22-23) at the Médiathèque La Source in Bouscat. This year it’s dedicated to space! Les Fous Rires de Bordeaux

Les Fous Rires de Bordeaux (16-23 March) is a very unique humor festival hosting more than 80 artists and different activities taking place all over the city. The festival is an opportunity to experience humor in different forms, such as live on stage, in pictures and even through cooking!

There are two parts to the festival: Festival IN, with well-known artists on stage and Festival OUF– that proposes free activities during the whole week of the festival such as workshops, happenings, entertaining children in hospitals and more. See the full program here.

La compagnie Panik

La compagnie Panik is a circus incorporating horses as well as dance, body theater and mime techniques as integral parts of the show. The theater will install their blue tent at the Quai de Queyries on March 8- 31 and will perform two different shows:  “Cabaret de Côté” and “Cirque Bleu”. For more details and tickets click here.

Foire aux Plaisirs

This is the spring edition of the traditional Bordelaise Fair that is taking place at Place des Quinconces from February 22 to March 24. It’s a perfect activity for kids and for those who are young in spirit as La Foire aux Plaisirs de Bordeaux has it all: a big wheel, roller coasters, ghost trains, bumper cars, donuts, crèpes, barbes à papa and more. The fair is open daily from 14:00, you are not required to pay any entry fee, only for some of the attractions. See more info about the fair here.

Silent tropical Party

Finally, the concept of headphone parties is arriving to Bordeaux. If you’re not familiar with it yet, it’s a completely silent party where you hear the music only through your headphones. A silent electronic party will take place this Friday (March 22) at Les Vivres de l’Art. For more info click here.

Classic music at Saint André

This Friday (March 22) a classic concert will take place at Saint André. The Choir of la Maîtrise de Bordeaux will open the musical season in the main church of Bordeaux with the music of Vivaldi and Zelenka. For more details click here.

D’un soleil à l’autre – New exhibition at the Base sous marine

In the D’un soleil à l’autre exhibition artists present their poetic journey in space. Aspects like elastic distances, weightlessness, dazzling, infinitely large landscapes and incandescent materials are beautifully translated into contemporary and digital art. La Base sous marine is known for the phenomenal use of their unique space for art, so don’t miss this one. The exhibition will be presented at the museum from March 9 to May 19. This weekend there are several very nice events in Bordeaux, such as the Swing festival and the annual humor festival. But you don’t need much to be entertained this time as Saint Patrick’s day is on Sunday. Many bars and covered markets are organizing celebrations with plenty of alcohol involved. If you want a calmer activity head to the new design exhibition at the cité du Vin. Here’s the list of things to do this weekend in Bordeaux (March 15-17).

Swing Festival

Every March, for more than a decade now, Bordeaux has been hosting the Swing Art Festival (March 15-17) where swing dancers come from all around the globe to teach the dancers of Bordeaux their art of swinging. This festival is much more than just swing dancing, it’s three days of live music, art, vintage markets, workshops, and a get together of many people from all around the world to celebrate this sweeping dance. The event will take place in Halle des Chartrons and it’s Free! For more details click here.

The Italian Spring Festival

Le printemps italien is an Italian literature festival taking place on March 14-16 in several locations around Bordeaux Metropole. The program includes meetings with Italian writers, screenings of Italian films, wine tastings and more. For the full program and tickets to events click here.

Printemps du sport 2019

SoliFest OFF Festival

Solifest is a associative festival that will take place this Saturday (March 16) at the Garage Moderne in the Bacalan district. Base – opening night

Big news for Bordeaux’s nightlife! Le Base, one of the biggest night clubs in Bordeaux is about to open its doors this Friday (March 15). It’ll be a big opening night with a Cabaret show that will include 20 dancers and performers. The entry is 10€. For more details and reservations click here.

Gala de fin d’année

Saint Patrick’s day is always a good opportunity to get drunk from an Irish beer or whiskey while listening to good music. This year the celebrations will take place on Sunday (March 17) so there will be a weekend of nice events in many bars. When art and design take on glass

A new temporary exhibition will be inaugurated at the Cité du Vin this Friday (March 15). The exhibition beautifully combines the wine and design worlds. It includes the works of several designers who all modified and reinvented wine glasses. For more details click here.

Salon du Vintage

The annual vintage salon will take place in Hangar 14 (Quai des Chartrons) on March 9-10. This chic event will gather more than 150 exhibitors with a great selection of accessories, furniture, vinyl records, classic cars, jukeboxes, paintings and more. Just outside of Hangar 14, plenty of food trucks will wait for you during lunch. For more details check the facebook page and the website of the event. Entry is 5€ and free for kids under 12 years old.

Festival La Fourchette

La Fourchette is a site that allows you to enjoy discounts in restaurants all over France. This year they organized their first food festival. For the next month and a half (from March 5 to April 21), you can enjoy up to 50% discounts in many restaurants in France, 25 of them are located in Bordeaux. Elles font bouger le vin

While wine is still a  male-dominated world there are more and more women who are taking the front seat at the game. This Friday (March 8), la Cité du Vin invites you to celebrate the international women’s day at the “Elles font bouger le vin” event. Carnaval Lumineux de Pessac

The last carnival for this weekend is the one in Pessac. Carnaval lumineux will take place this Saturday (March 9). This year the theme of the festival is the sea and all families are encouraged to come disguised. For more details click here.

Festins – new exhibition

Institut Bernard Magrez will be presenting its new exhibition in a few days (March 7) and it looks awesome. Festins is an exhibition by two artists, Gérard RANCINAN  and Caroline GAUDRIAULT, that have been working together in the last 20 years and have now agreed to present their works at the museum. For more details click here and here. The exhibition will be presented at the institute until June 9. On March 8, in honor of the international women’s day the entry for women is free. This place never disappoints!

After two amazing sunny weeks in the Bordeaux area, this weekend we’re going back to winter mode. We do however start to feel some spring vibes as there are more and more big events taking place in Bordeaux. One of them is the Carnaval of Bordeaux, a very colorful fun event for both kids and adults. Apart from all the other great events this weekend, don’t forget that it’s the first Sunday of the month, which is a day without cars in Bordeaux, and a great opportunity to discover the city.  Here’s the list of things to do this weekend in Bordeaux (March 1-3).

Carnaval de 2 rives

Le Carnaval des 2 rives  (March 3)  takes place on both sides of the Garonne river. This is a modern festival (created in 1996) that has all the best features of a traditional carnival such as costumes, shows, and a big parade. The parade will start at 14:00 at the Allée Serr, on the right side of the river and will pass to the other side through Pont de Pierre ending at the Village Carnaval at Place Pey-Berland at 15:30. The Village Carnaval will be open until 18:00 with a big scene including dancers and demonstrations of augmented reality. For more details click here.

Les Puces Bordelaises

Les Puces Bordelaise is the spring brocante of Bordeaux, taking place this weekend (March 2-3) in Parc des Expositions de Bordeaux Lac. Experts and antique lovers gather around in a happening of French antiques, second hand trade, vintage decoration and furniture. Entry ticket is 3 euros (free for kids under 18 years old).

Big Vide Dressing event

A big event of vide-dressing (second-hand clothes sale) will take place this weekend (March 2-3) at Les Vivres de l’Art. Come and refresh your closet with the most famous marks at affordable prices. See more details here.

Les Toiles Filantes – kids cinema festival

Les Toiles Filantes is a cinema festival that invites kids aged 3-12 years to discover cinema through screenings, meeting with people from the industry, new movies contest and more. This year the Festival’s theme is “vive le sport”, meaning that all the movies and animation films will be in some way related to sports. The program includes movies like Karate kid, le ballon d’or, La Grande Course au fromage and more. The festival takes place at Cinéma Jean Eustache in Pessac from February 25 to March 3. Join a roller-blading ride group

If you’re into rollerblading or want to learn to rollerblade join the Airroller club. Free museums Sunday

Good news for street art fans! The amazing exhibition of Nasty (one of the most talented artist in this field) was extended until March 3rd! So if you haven’t seen it yet, it’s a must! The exhibition is presented at the Institut Bernard Magrez. For more about the artist click here.

Bengal stream – Exhibition

Bengal Stream is a beautiful architecture exhibition presented at the Erc en Rêve, the architecture center of CAPC (the contemporary art museum of Bordeaux). The exhibition presents pictures and models of tens of projects in Bangladesh, realized by emerging architects. Most projects had very little budget to work with, but with great imagination and the understanding of the local materials and weather conditions the final results are incredible. 
This project is a testimony to the extraordinary architecture of this country. For more info click here.

Swing Festival

Every March, for more than a decade now, Bordeaux has been hosting the Swing Art Festival (March 15-17) where swing dancers come from all around the globe to teach the dancers of Bordeaux their art of swinging. This festival is much more than just swing dancing, it’s three days of live music, art, vintage markets, workshops, and a get together of many people from all around the world to celebrate this sweeping dance. The Italian Spring Festival

Le printemps italien is a an Italian literature festival that will take place on March 14-16 in several locations around Bordeaux Metropole. Les Fous Rires de Bordeaux

Les Fous Rires de Bordeaux (16-23 March) is a very unique humor festival hosting more than 80 artists and different activities taking place all over the city. The festival is an opportunity to experience humor in different forms, such as live on stage, in pictures and even through cooking!!

There are two parts to the festival: Festival IN, with well-known artists on stage. Festival OUF– that proposes free activities during the whole week of the festival such as workshops, happenings, entertaining children in hospitals and more. See the full program here.

Saint Patrick’s day

Saint Patrick’s day is always a good opportunity to get drunk from an Irish beer or whisky while listening to good music. Although it’s not Dublin, there are quite a lot of Irish and English bars in Bordeaux. Most of them make a big Saint Patrick’s day celebration with music and a lot of drunk and happy people. Foire aux Plaisirs

This is the spring edition of the traditional Bordelaise Fair that is taking place at Place des Quinconces  from February 22 to March 24. It’s a perfect activity for kids and for those who are young in spirit as La Foire aux Plaisirs de Bordeaux has it all: a big wheel, roller coasters, ghost trains, bumper cars, donuts, crèpes, barbes à papa and more. The fair is open daily from 14:00, you are not required to pay any entry fee, only for some of the attractions. See more info about the fair here.

Salon International du Disque de Bordeaux

The international salon of vinyl and cd records of Bordeaux will take place March 23-24 in the Parc des expositions. It’s the 59th edition of this festival that brings together 80 exhibitors from France and abroad and proposes all genres of music: rock, pop, soul, jazz, punk, reggae and more. The European short film festival

The 22nd edition of the European Short Film festival (festival européen du court métrage de bordeaux) will take place on March 27-29 at the UGC Ciné Cité Bordeaux.  The festival includes a program of about thirty movies from all over the world and a jury of famous personalities from the French cinema industry, from actors to directors and screenwriters. D’un soleil à l’autre – New exhibition at the Base sous marine

In the D’un soleil à l’autre exhibition artists present their poetic journey in space. Aspects like elastic distances, weightlessness, dazzling, infinitely large landscapes and incandescent materials are beautifully translated into contemporary and digital art. La Base sous marine is known for the phenomenal use of their unique space for art, so don’t miss this one. The exhibition will be presented at the museum from March 9 to May 19. Festins – new exhibition

Institut Bernard Magrez will be presenting its new exhibition in a few days (March 7) and it looks awesome. Festins is an exhibition by two artists, Gérard RANCINAN  and Caroline GAUDRIAULT, that have been working together in the last 20 years and have now agreed to present their works at the museum. For more details click here and here. The exhibition will be presented at the institute until June 9. On March 8, in honor of the international women’s day the entry for women is free. This place never disappoints!

Sous les mers, au-delà de l’image-  Musee de la Mer et de la Marine

“Sous les mers, au-delà de l’image” is a photography exhibition presented at the new Musee de la Mer et de la Marine until April 30. This weekend many people are out of town due to the school break and there are thus fewer events than usual. For those staying in the city, there are some nice events and exhibitions on my list. Since it’s going to be hot this weekend you can also use it to discover Bordeaux and its parks.

Festival Les Grenadines Givrées

Last chance to visit the Kaléidoscope exhibition

This time it’s really the last chance to see the beautiful street art exhibition in Institut Bernard Magrez. The Kaléidoscope exhibition is all about feminine art, hosting nine female street artists to present their works in a genre that is usually considered more masculine. If you ate tons of heart-shaped chocolate for Saint Valentine’s today, you can continue the celebration with Bordeaux’s chocolate festival. Also, there are plenty of events for kids this weekend, such as a cartoon festival in Begles, a dance festival and more. I also added plenty of dance events and parties so it won’t be boring this weekend. Here’s the list of things to do this weekend in Bordeaux (February 15-17).

Chocolate Festival in Jardin Botanique

This tasty 10 days fair, organized by Fédération Autonome des Métiers Gourmands, is taking place at the Jardin Botanique until February 17. This year the theme is a vegetable garden and you’ll discover the beautiful sculptures made by the chocolatiers for the national chocolate competition of Bordeaux. Some of the best Bordeaux chocolatiers will present and sell their works at the fair. For the full program click here.

Festival Pouce Bordeaux

Jumping international de Bordeaux

Jumping International de Bordeaux is a big riding equestrian event that includes competitions, spectacles and a fun fair. The event takes place on February 7 -10 in Parc des Expositions de Bordeaux. More than 250 exhibitors will present their horses at the event which will include activities such as the Jumping world cup, amateurs competition, Equine Health Forum, a show of Iberian horses and more. Play Mios – Playmobile day

A Playmobil exhibition will take place this Saturday (February 9) in Mios. Bengal stream – Exhibition

Bengal Stream is a beautiful architecture exhibition presented at the Erc en Rêve, the architecture center of CAPC (the contemporary art museum of Bordeaux). The exhibition presents pictures and models of tens of projects in Bangladesh, realized by emerging architects. Most projects had very little budget to work with, but with great imagination and the understanding of the local materials and weather conditions the final results are incredible.
This project is a testimony to the extraordinary architecture of this country. For more info click here.

Festival Pouce Bordeaux

Villenave Trail Urbain

Surfrider clean up in Ambés

Grand Marché de la Truffe

This weekend (February 2-3) a market of truffles will take place at Cours Malby. Grand Marché de la Truffe is a big event, dedicated to the famous black truffles of Périgord and other products of the region (foie gras, truffled liver pâtés and more). Salon des Antiquaires et de l’Art Contemporain

The Salon of Antiques and contemporary arts is one of the biggest events in Bordeaux for Antique hunters. Game In Jeux vidéo

Union Saint Jean invites you this Saturday (February 2) for a fun day dedicated to video games. The event includes activities for both kids and adults. The program for kids includes a family space with kids makeup, paper toys, arcade games, big puzzles and more. The adults can enjoy a game museum, board games and more. A week of Underground electronic music

For the next two weeks Les Vivres de l’Art hosts a long line up of underground electronic music concerts. From February 1 to February 15, 17 live concerts will take place at this brilliant venue in the Bacalan district. Exposition Système de Nasti

Marché des connaissances

This is the final event of the “Reboot : Semaine de culture scientifique“, a week dedicated to the relationship between humans and robots. This Saturday (February 2) a special fair will take place at the Halle de Chartrons that will reunite different scientific associations and players in the cultural scientific scene in Bordeaux, among them: Arts et Métiers (Bordeaux’s engineering school), Association des Sciences Archéologiques, Jeunes Sciences Bordeaux and others. The entry is free and open for all.

Pull à Facettes – Upgrade your clothes

This is a very cool evening for fashion lovers or just the creative ones among you. Pull à Facettes is an event created to get you out of the house for a winter cozy activity. You can bring your clothes and upgrade them with funky accessories. Make that old sweater of yours look cool again :). The event will include beer, hot wine, and karaoke! Le Cirque Arlette Gruss

Arlette Gruss is a traditional French circus, founded in 1985. The circus has performed in Bordeaux several times in the last two decades and this time it’s coming back with a new show. This year they offer a free guided visit to the circus village to those who bought a ticket to the show. The circus tent will occupy the place de Quinconces from January 10 to February 6. Jazz Concert at Auditorium de l’Opéra

Richard Galliano, the French accordionist, will take the stage of the Auditorium of Bordeaux this Saturday (February 2). His concert will take you to a musical journey of exiles and sailors in Paris in the end of the 19th century. For more info and tickets click here.

Misatango- dance show

Misatango was created in 1996 by the head of the Argentinian Orchestra, Martín Palmeri. This choreography is a spiritual journey that incorporates some of the Latin American musical traditions, especially tango. It looks like it’s going to be quite a rainy weekend so I guess most of you will be looking for some indoor activities. Some of the options this weekend include the big fair of antiques and art and the Trente Trente art festival. International magic festival

Bordeaux rock Festival

The Bordeaux Rock festival will take place on January 23-27 in different music venues in Bordeaux: The Iboat, Quartier libre, El Chicho, L’avant scène, Void, La Tencha, La Voute, L’imperio, L’Antidote, and Salle des fêtes du grand parc. La nuit des conservatoires

This Friday (January 25) le Conservatoire de Bordeaux invites you to a special night with concerts and performances from all the disciplines taught at the conservatory. Besides concerts, the night includes workshops and lectures. The concert is free and open to all. For more info click here.

Vietnam circus 

This week (January 23-26), Pin Galant in Merignac hosts the amazing show Teh Dar by the new Vietnamese circus. Teh Dar means dancing around the fire in the K’h, the language of an ethnic minority in central Vietnam. The circus uses the costumes, the colors and the special traditions of the region in their beautiful show. For tickets and more info click here.

Trente Trente – Emerging arts Festival

Trente Trente is an annual festival, created to promote emerging artists in Bordeaux and Nouvelle Aquitaine in general. The festival includes more than twenty performances by artists from all genres, with some experimenting with interdisciplinary arts. The festival takes place on January 18-31 in different theaters and cultural spaces across the metropole (see the full list here).

Tremplin de 2 Rives

This is the 7th edition of the Tremplin de 2 rives festival which aims to promote the musical talents of Bordeaux. The festival includes eight evenings from January 5 to February 9. This weekend is dedicated to Bordeaux west. On Saturday (January 26) five bands will take the stage of Salle Quintin Loucheur. For more details click here.

Hostens Trails 2019

Every year the Gironde department organizes plenty of sportive events that are open to the public. The first one of 2019 is about to take place this weekend (January 26-27) in Hostens. The event offers several trails for both runners, walkers and Nordic walkers. The price varies according to the trail and prior registration is mandatory. For more info click here and here. Album Artworks Exhibition in Pessac

Album Artworks is an exhibition of five artists that have worked with Bordelaise bands and created both cd covers and accessories for music concerts. The exhibition will be presented at Sorti 13 in Pessac between January 25 to Mars 3. For more info about the artists click here.

Visions graphiques Exhibition

Interactive special effects exhibition

Do you ever wonder how the special effects you see in movies are made? If you do then you should check out the “Effets speciaux” exhibition taking place these days in Cap Sciences. It’s an interactive exhibition that allows you to see the behind the scenes of the cinema world and experiment with different special effects like the green screen. Entry prices range from 6.5€ to 9€ and free for kids under 5 years old. For more info click here.
