This weekend we have a lot of interesting events taking place in little towns all around bordeaux. A big Reggae festival in the Medoc area, an oysters festival in Lège-Cap Ferret and a classical music festival in Blaye. There are also plenty of parties and nice events down town as well and I added many of them to the list. If you’re not into any of this, just go to an exhibition, you can choose one from this article. Reggae Sun Ska music festival

The 22nd edition of this fun reggae festival will take place at the Domaine Equestre de Nodri in Vertheuil, located in the Medoc area (about an hour drive from Bordeaux) on the first weekend of August (2-4). The impressive long lineup includes tens of performers from the reggae scene. You can check out the full lineup here.  For more info and details check out the facebook page of the festival.

Fête de la Presqu’île in Cap Ferret

Every year in August Lege Cap Ferret celebrates its oyster farming with a big event called Fête de la Presqu’île. The three day event includes plenty of oysters, concerts, activities for kids and fireworks on the closing night. The event will take place on August 2-4 in Claouey. For more info click here.

La Nuit des Étoiles

This is the national starry nights event taking place in different parks all over France. One of the events in our region will take place on Sunday (August 4) at Forêt du Bourgailh in Pessac. The program includes telescopes, workshops for kids where they will build water rockets, an astronomy  conference, night butterflies and more. For more details click here

Graines de Sauvage & La Belle Africaine

Fête de la Ruralité et Festival du Bois

Fête de la Ruralité et du Festival du Bois is an annual feast of rural traditions taking place in Biganos on the Arcachon Bay. The program includes a craftsmen market, demonstrations of past know-how and traditions: threshing machine, oven baked bread, an animal farm, a local products market, activities for kids and more. The event will take place this weekend (August 2-4), for more details click here

Music festival in Le Barp

The Country Rock festival will take place this weekend (August 2-4) in Le Barp (about 30 minutes from Bordeaux). Besides three days of concerts the program of the festival also includes activities for kids, food trucks, bike tours and many stands with rock-country clothes and accessories. Festival de Cape et d’Epée

Château de Vayres invites you to a fun weekend of pirate games, Knight tournaments, artillery, axe throwing and archery. This is all part of the program of the Festival de Cape taking place this weekend (August 3-4) at the chateau. For more details click here

Festival flam

Festival Flam is an annual classical music festival taking place in Blaye and the surrounding towns. The festival is mostly dedicated to string instruments, bringing together young and more experienced musicians. The festival takes place from July 31 to August 11. Check out the full program here

Fête de la mer

Soulac sur mer, the charming town in the north of Medoc, is celebrating the sea with a day of parades, live music and fireworks. The event will take place this Sunday (August 4) in the city center. For more info click here.

Dance on the Quai

Dansons sur les Quais is a series of dancing classes and events where people gather to dance together and learn a variety of dancing genres like Tango, Salsa, Bollywood, Forro, Hip Hop, Street Jazz, Zumba, Country and more. These activities will be guided by professional dancers from different dance schools in Bordeaux and they are completely free, so this is a great opportunity you don’t want to miss. Dansons sur les Quais is taking place every day until August 18. For more details and the full program check out the website of Dansons sur les Quai.

Quai des Sports

This is the 11th edition of this fun sportive event taking place every summer (July 13 to August 11) at the Parc des sports Saint Michel.  The program this month includes a variety of sportive activities such as a fitness night, beach volleyball, basketball, BMX, beach wrestling and more. The festival will be accompanied by artistic and music events. Many of the activities are aimed at kids and teenagers and are a perfect solution for entertaining them in the center of Bordeaux during the summer.  Check the full program here.

Learn how to Tango

Every summer the Tango Bordeaux association organizes pubic tango events in Jardin Public,  Place de Quinconces and la Grande Poste. The next event will take place in Jardin Public on August 4th. See more details as well as a full list of events for this summer here

The summer pavilion on the right side of the river

Like every summer in the last five years, the Orangeade association opens its summer pavilion on le Quai Deschamps (in the Bastide neighborhood) with live concerts every Friday (18:00 – 01:00) and Saturday (12:00 to 01:00). These events are not just music concerts but rather a place for friends and family to spend the weekend with yoga classes, creative workshops, activities for kids and more. La Guinguette de L’Hippodrome

La Guinguette de l’Hippodrome is yet another nice spot for summer nights in Bordeaux. The tavern in le Bouscat invites you to its weekend parties taking place every Friday and Saturday until October. For more details click here

Now that the French ‘vacances’ are knocking on the door, Bordeaux is officially turning into one big music, dance and art festival. Starting July, plenty of festivals will take place all over the metropole. You can go dancing on the quai, listen to free music concerts on the other side of the Garone or listen to classical music concerts in different locations around Bordeaux. Apart from that, there are street art and food truck festivals and let’s not forget the summer sales!!!  Here’s the list of things to do in Bordeaux in July 2019. Dance on the Quai

Dansons sur les Quais is a series of dancing classes and events where people gather to dance together and learn a variety of dancing genres like Tango, Salsa, Bollywood, Forro, Hip Hop, Street Jazz, Zumba, Country and more. These activities will be guided by professional dancers from different dance schools in Bordeaux and they are completely free, so this is a great opportunity you don’t want to miss. Bordeaux Metropolitan Summer

Like every year Bordeaux Metropolitan invites you to discover the city and the area around it through a series of cultural events and activities. More than 100 activities of music, dance, public reading, theater, circus and gastronomy will take place between June 20 and August 31. These events are so widely spread across the metropolitan area of Bordeaux that you are guaranteed to discover places (especially parks) that you have never heard of before: Parc d’Observation in Floirac, Parc du Viver in Merignac, Parc Camponac in Pessac and many more. Summer Sales

Soldes d’été are six weeks in the summer during which you can find really good deals on clothes, shoes, electric supplies, toys and more. Les soldes d’été will take place from June 26 to August 6.

Zinefest

Zinefest is a festival dedicated to comics, illustrations, photography and poetry. The festival includes several expositions and concerts by both French and international artists and will take place in several venues in the south of Bordeaux. Check out the full program of events here.

Jalles House Rock

Le Jalles House Rock is one of the biggest rock festivals in Gironde that annually proposes a rich program of local and international acts. The goal of the festival is to share the love for rock music with as many people as possible and that’s why the entrance is free (they do however encourage you to donate to the Estran association that organizes the event). This year the festival in Saint-Médard-en-Jalles takes place on July 4-6. For more details check out the website of the festival.

Festival Rues et Vous

This is the 12th edition of Festival Rue et Vous , a performance arts festival that takes place every year in the charming medieval town of Rions. This year the festival will take place on July 5-7 and will include a rich program of theater, dance, circus and music shows for both adults and kids. Summer of Music in Medoc

Les Estivales de Musique en Medoc is the only music festival in France dedicated exclusively to young laureates of international competitions.  The festival was created in 2003 to discover new talents in classical music. The concerts are hosted in some of the most prestigious châteaux in the Medoc area and are followed by wine tastings. The concerts will take place on July 3-12. See the full program here.

Celebrate the French National Day

July 14th is the French national day which is celebrated in every city in France. Like every year, Bordeaux will hold a series of popular events and parties, the main ones are:

14 Juillet Bordeaux
  • Military parade at Quai des Chartrons –  18:30
  • The traditional dance party at Placette de Munich – Quai Louis XVIII (in front of Quinconces) – 20:30
  • Fireworks show above the Garonne river between Pont de Pierre and Place de la Bourse – 22:45

Apart from the traditional national day events, plenty of other parties will take place on July 13-14 to celebrate this day. Follow the blog for updates.

Bordeaux Food-truck Festival

This is the biggest gathering of food trucks in the region of Nouvelle Aquitaine. Tens of different food trucks will be spread around the Gironde department in five events that will take place between June and September. This festival aims to mix street food with the finesse of the wine world. As part of this gastronomic event, visitors can taste the wines of the hosting châteaux and the specialties of food coming from all corners of the world: French, Italian, Brazilian and many more. The program of the festival also includes free concerts, exhibitions, escape games, activities for kids and more. This month two food truck events will take place in the Medoc region.

Les Nouvelles Saisons – music festival

Les Nouvelles Saisons is a classic music festival taking place in Bordeaux on July 16-25 in three locations: Cour Mably, Cathédrale de Bordeaux and la Grande Poste. The festival was created by the violoncellist Jeremy Genet and the composer Christian Lauba offering a great variety of musical styles (baroque, romantic, modern and more). La Bataille de Castillon

La Bataille de Castillon is a spectacle taking place during more than 10 evenings in the summer, replicating the famous fight from 1453. Castillon-la-Bataille, the town where the show takes place also hosts many activities and events revolving the big show: tours of the city, exhibitions and workshops of medieval art and more. Braderie d’été

Every summer the main streets of Bordeaux are getting filled with stands of clothes, shoes, toys, house supplies and more – this is the Bordeaux summer Braderie. If you’re in town for winter sales take the opportunity to check out the stands of more than 250 merchants on rue Porte Dijeaux, rue Sainte Catherine and rue des Trois Conils. The Braderie will take place on July 17-20. For more details click here.

Arcachon En Scene

Archachon en Scene is a popular music festival that brings big French and international acts to perform in this beautiful town. This year’s program includes Amir and Kimberose (July 29) and GIMS  (August 2). For more info check out the facebook page of the event, for tickets click here.

Bordeaux Open Air

Bordeaux Open Air is a series of free summer electronic music events, all set in different locations and with a great city vibe to them. Every event is dedicated to a different country and hosts its DJ’s for sets of electronic music. The first event this summer will take place on June 30 at Square Dom Bedos and the second one on July 7 at Jardin public. The locations of the following events have not been published yet. Quai des Sports

Puppet Theater for Kids

Le Guignol Guérin, founded in 1853, is the oldest puppetry show in France with daily spectacles for kids in Parc Bordelais during the summer  (July and August). The show usually starts at 16:00 but can be canceled or postponed when it’s raining or getting too hot. Read more about the theater here.

Two street art exhibitions

Two amazing street art exhibitions are going to presented at the Institut Bernard Magrez throughout the summer. The first one (from May 28 to September 1st) is called Instincts, an exhibition by Mika which is one of Bordeaux’s most prominent street artists. The other one (July 5 – October 6) is an exhibition by one of the most famous street artists in the world, Seth (Julien Mallard) who also happens to be French. For more details click here.

Rivages et Vertigo Sea – a new exhibition

The Base sous marine is hosting a new and intriguing exhibition starting June 21. It is, in fact, a combination of two exhibitions addressing the themes of sea and shore. Rivages is a photography exhibition by the artist Harry Gruyaert and VertigoSea is a video installation by the director John Akomfrah. For more information about the exhibition click here.

Dance at la guingette chez Alriq

La Guinguette chez Alriq is a tavern at the Bastide neighborhood, on the rive droite of the Garonne. During the summer the place is full with locals who escape the more touristy rive gauche and come to enjoy live concerts on the river bank. The Guinguette is open from Thursday to Sunday. Andernos Jazz Festival 

One of the best Jazz festivals in the Gironde region is taking place this weekend (July 26-28) in Andernos les Bains. Talence Estival

Jazz in Marciac

Marciac is a nice little village in the Gers department (about 2 hours drive from Bordeaux) that hosts one of the biggest Jazz festivals in the region. The festival takes place for three weeks (from July 27 to August 15) and has a very impressive lineup of international Jazz artists. The tickets are sold separately to each and every concert. Banzaï Land – Plein Air

Banzaï Land invites you to a weekend full of concerts at the old Casteja police station (close to Gambetta). The event will take place from Friday to Sunday (July 26-28), check out the full program here

Jazz in Sanguinet

Another cool festival this weekend (July 25-28) will take place in Sanguinet, just next to Biscarrosse lake. This is a fun and free event with plenty of concerts and exhibitions. For more info click here

Relache Festival

Relache Festival, created by the Allez les filles association, is a series of free concerts taking place at different venues and dates during the summer. Go see an exhibition

Guided English tour in Musée D’Aquitaine 

The Musée D’Aquitaine is offering English guided tours of the entire permanent collection every Sunday until the end of August. The tour covers pre-history to the modern ages with a focus on the museum’s highlights, including the Laussel Venus, the statue of Hercules, the cenotaph of Michel Montaigne and more. The visits are on Sunday at 11 am, admission is 5€ full price, 3€ reduced, the tour is included with the entry price.

Le Verger Grand Format

Yet another active summer weekend in Bordeaux with several music festivals and dancing events is ahead of us. If you don’t mind travelling a bit there are plenty of amazing festivals taking place in the area this weekend, among them the Jazz festival in Medoc and the huge festival in Mont de Marsan. BDX Food-Truck Festival

Another event of the Bordeaux food truck festival is taking place this Sunday (July 21) at Château Castera. As always, the program of the festival includes free concerts, exhibitions, escape games, activities for kids and more. For more details about the event click here

Banzaï Land – Plein Air

Banzaï Land invites you to a weekend full of concerts at the old Casteja police station (close to Gambetta). The event will take place from Friday to Sunday (July 19-21), check out the full program here

Les Nouvelles Saisons – music festival

Les Nouvelles Saisons is a classical music festival taking place in Bordeaux on July 16-25 in three locations: Cour Mably, Cathédrale de Bordeaux, and la Grande Poste. The festival was created by the violoncellist Jeremy Genet and the composer Christian Lauba offering a great variety of musical styles (baroque, romantic, modern and more). En Plein Arts Festival 

The city of Talence invites you to the annual festival in the Thouars forest (around the Dome) taking place this Saturday (July 20). The program includes many cultural and artistic activities such as music performances and more. For more info check out the facebook page of the event.

Jazz de Lesparre

The Lesparre Jazz festival will take place this Friday and Saturday (July 19-20) next to the Tour de l’Honneur. This year the music festival is going to be extra fun as it’s hosting the Bordeaux food truck festival. The event is free, check out the program here. Sardinade, bal populaire

Sardinade, bal populaire is a fun event of dancing, food and wine taking place this Saturday (July 20) in Gujan Mestras on the Bassin d’Arcachon. For more details click here

The Amazing Nina Simone – L’Été de Musical Écran

 L’Été de Musical Écran is one of the events of the Bordeaux Metropolitan Summer. Outdoor screenings of music-related movies are taking place throughout the summer in different locations around Bordeaux. This Sunday (Sunday 21) the Banzai land festival is hosting a screening of the movie ‘The Amazing Nina Simone’. For more details click here

Braderie d’été

Every summer the main streets of Bordeaux are getting filled with stands of clothes, shoes, toys, house supplies and more – this is the Bordeaux summer Braderie. If you’re in town for winter sales take the opportunity to check out the stands of more than 250 merchants on rue Porte Dijeaux, rue Sainte Catherine and rue des Trois Conils. The Braderie will take place on July 17-20. For more details click here.

La Bataille de Castillon

La Bataille de Castillon is a spectacle taking place during more than 10 evenings in the summer, replicating the famous fight from 1453. Castillon-la-Bataille, the town where the show takes place also hosts many activities and events revolving the big show: tours of the city, exhibitions, and workshops of medieval art and more. Dance on the Quai

Dansons sur les Quais is a series of dancing classes and events where people gather to dance together and learn a variety of dancing genres like Tango, Salsa, Bollywood, Forro, Hip Hop, Street Jazz, Zumba, Country and more. These activities will be guided by professional dancers from different dance schools in Bordeaux and they are completely free, so this is a great opportunity you don’t want to miss. Dansons sur les Quais is finally starting this Sunday (July 14) and will take place on the quai almost daily until August 18. Quai des Sports

This is the 11th edition of this fun sportive event taking place every summer (July 13 to August 11) at the Parc des sports Saint Michel.  The program this month includes a variety of sportive activities such as a fitness night, beach volleyball, basketball, BMX, beach wrestling and more. The festival will be accompanied by artistic and music events. Many of the activities are aimed at kids and teenagers and are a perfect solution for entertaining them in the center of Bordeaux during the summer.  Check the full program here.

Fêtes de la Madeleine

Fêtes de la Madeleine is the big festival of Mont de Marsan, in the Landes department, celebrating the Gascogne culture. The five days event transforms the city into a big carnival with plenty of concerts, food, shows and activities for kids. The festival is taking place on July 17-21. The summer pavilion on the right side of the river

Like every summer in the last five years, the Orangeade association opens its summer pavilion on le Quai Deschamps (in the Bastide neighborhood) with live concerts every Friday (18:00 – 01:00) and Saturday (12:00 to 01:00). These events are not just music concerts but rather a place for friends and family to spend the weekend with yoga classes, creative workshops, activities for kids and more. This is the weekend of 14 Juillet (French national day) so many events in and around Bordeaux will be dedicated to that. Two big summer festivals are also starting this weekend, one will make you dance during the summer and the other will keep you and your kids fit. Before we dig into this weekend’s list, I wanted to remind you to take a look at what else is on this month in my July list.
Here’s the list of things to do in Bordeaux this weekend (July 12-14).

Celebrate French National Day

July 14th is the French national day which is celebrated in every city in France. Like every year, Bordeaux will hold a series of popular events and parties, the main ones are:

  • Military parade at Quai des Chartrons –  18:30
  • The traditional dance party at Placette de Munich – Quai Louis XVIII (in front of Quinconces) – 20:30
  • Fireworks show above the Garonne river between Pont de Pierre and Place de la Bourse – 22:45

Bal Pompiers

Bal Pompiers are traditional firemen parties that take place in many cities in France on July 13 and 14. Bordeaux’s firemen will also celebrate the national day with a few parties of their own. One of the biggest ones will take place at the Ornano Fire Academy (Meriadeck) on July 13, check more details here. Another big party is Bal de la Benauge that will take place on July 13 at the Benauge fire station, Check more details here

Quai des Sports

This is the 11th edition of this fun sportive event taking place every summer (July 13 to August 11) at the Parc des sports Saint Michel.  The program this month includes a variety of sportive activities such as a fitness night, beach volleyball, basketball, BMX, beach wrestling and more. Go to the beach

Bordeaux Open Air

Bordeaux Open Air is a series of free summer electronic music events, all set in different locations and with a great city vibe to them. Every event is dedicated to a different country and hosts its DJ’s for sets of electronic music. The next Open Air event will take place this Sunday (July 14) at Square Dom Bedos. Raphaëlle Boitel – Horizon

Horizon is a dance and acrobatic artwork by the French choreographer Raphaëlle Boitel. The piece pays tribute to the emblematic architecture in Bordeaux by using the Opera building as its stage. The show will take place on Place de la Comedie on Friday and Saturday (July 12-13) at 20:00. For more details click here

Zanzibar – Opening

This weekend Darwin will open their summer bar. This year the bar takes inspiration from East Africa and will pay tribute to Afro-Caribbean and South American music. You can join the opening event on Friday and Saturday (July 12-13) with plenty of cocktails and concerts. See the full program here.

The summer is fully on in Bordeaux and with it come open air events where you can dance and enjoy being outdoors with your friends and family. One of the biggest events is the Weekend de L’art Contemporain with more than 150 artists presenting their works all over Bordeaux. If you’re fed up with the city center, there are plenty of great festivals in different parts of the metropole you can go to. Weekend de L’art Contemporain 

The contemporary art weekend will take place on July 5-7 in different art institutions in Bordeaux.  During three days, 40 locations in Bordeaux metropole will open their doors to the public and present artworks from more than 150 contemporary artists. Zinefest

Zinefest is a festival dedicated to comics, illustrations, photography and poetry. The festival includes several expositions and concerts by both French and international artists and will take place in several venues in the south of Bordeaux. Check out the full program of events here.

Jalles House Rock

Le Jalles House Rock is one of the biggest rock festivals in Gironde that annually proposes a rich program of local and international acts. The goal of the festival is to share the love for rock music with as many people as possible and that’s why the entrance is free (they do however encourage you to donate to the Estran association that organizes the event). This year the festival in Saint-Médard-en-Jalles takes place on July 4-6. For more details check out the website of the festival.

Festival Rues et Vous

This is the 12th edition of Festival Rue et Vous, a performance art festival taking place every year in the charming medieval town of Rions. This year the festival will take place on July 5-7 and will include a rich program of theater, dance, circus and music shows for both adults and kids. Summer of Music in Medoc

Les Estivales de Musique en Medoc is the only music festival in France dedicated exclusively to young laureates of international competitions.  The festival was created in 2003 to discover new talents in classical music. The concerts are hosted in some of the most prestigious châteaux in the Medoc area and are followed by wine tastings. The concerts will take place on July 3-12. See the full program here.

Les 24h du Swing

This is the 30th edition of ‘les 24h du Swing’, a swing festival taking place this weekend (July 5-7)  in Monségur. More than 40 concerts will take place at different locations like Bastide Monséguraise, des Tilleuls à la Halle and different bars and restaurants in Monségur. For more info and tickers click here

INSITU – Lire le Monde

INSITU is a fun literature festival taking place this weekend (July 5-7) in different places in Bordeaux metropole. The concept of the festival is a marathon of events where texts, written by foreign authors, are read by French comedians in surprising locations like a chocolate shop, a synagogue, a greenhouse and more. Bordeaux Open Air

Relache Festival

Relache Festival, created by the Allez les filles association, is a series of free concerts taking place at different venues and dates during the summer. The next two events are about to take place this weekend (July 5 -7) at Place Fernand Lafargue and at Square Dom Bedos. For the lineup and more details click here.

Journee de l’elevage et des produits du terroir in Bazas

The traditional day of local products and animal farming is taking place this Saturday (July 6) in the historic town of Bazas. A big exhibition of animals will take place on place de la Cathédrale among them cows, sheep, horses and more. The program also includes a cattle competition, concerts, local food, sheep shearing and more. For more info click here

Larrostréa

Larrostréa is an event in Gujan-Mestras celebrating the oyster cabanes and the traditional oyster farming boats. During three days (July 5-7) plenty of nice activities will take place on Port de Larros such as a  boat parade, art exhibitions, concerts and more. For more details click here

Micro-Festival Balterno!

Micro-Festival Balterno is a music event that is taking place this Saturday (July 6) in Parc de Mussonville in Bègles. It’s a free event with nine hours of non-stop music with six concerts and an art exhibition, all in a fun atmosphere in a charming park. For more info click here

Pétanque Electronique in Canéjan 

If you love to play Petanque, this is your weekend. Pétanque Electronique is an event taking place this weekend (July 6-7) in Canéjan. The program includes a petanque competition (in groups of three), concerts and food. For more info click here. Bring your own petanque balls

Festival PLAY in Gradignan 

PLAY is a free sports festival taking place this weekend (July 6-7) in Gradignan. Foire aux Rosés

The Foire aux Rosés is the perfect event for this hot summer. 47 Rosé producers from all over France will offer tastings and great deals on their wines. The event will take place this Saturday (July 6) in Hangar 14 on quai des Chartrons. For more details click here

Lacanau fête l’été

Lacanau Ocean will celebrate this Saturday (July 6) a day of activities for the whole family, an oyster buffet and salsa dancing in the evening. For more details click here.

Soirée Blanche

Another summer celebration is happening this Friday (July 5) at the Restaurant du StadeBordelais in Le Bouscat. To celebrate the beginning of the summer vacation they initiated a white evening with Dj sets and a lot of tapas. The dress code is white of course 🙂 For more details click here

You can say summer is here just by looking at the list of events this June in Bordeaux! There are so many things to do this month that it was truly hard to choose only 20. Luckily, I have my weekend lists to fill with all the other great events that are not on this list. So what do we have in June 2019? Bordeaux will celebrate the Garonne and international music day. We also have the open doors weekend in Cadillac, the geek festival, a food festival and plenty of music events and festivals. So think outdoor, sunny and fun!

Bordeaux fête le fleuve

Bordeaux fête le fleuve is one of the most beautiful and entertaining events the city has to offer. During a long weekend (June 20-23), Bordeaux will celebrate the Garonne River with plenty of festive activities and big beautiful vessels docking on the banks. The program includes a big concert every night, water activities, a visit to big impressive boats, gastronomic pavilions, art exhibitions, a white wine festival, fireworks on the river and more. The entrance is free but if you want to enjoy some of Bordeaux’s wine as well, you can get a pass here. For more details and the full program click here. It takes place only once in two years so if you’re here this June, don’t miss it!

Les Epicuriales

This foodie event taking place on June 13-23 has become an early summer Bordelaise tradition. For 11 days les Epicuriales festival transforms Allées de Tourny (next to the Opera) to a gastronomic heaven with about twenty restaurants set up especially for the event. The highlight of the event is ”Les Étoiles d’Épicure”, a restaurant that will host a different Michelin star chef every evening. The website is still in construction, but you can see more details on their facebook page.

Fête de la Morue

For more than two centuries, Bègles has been an important center of Morue (codfish) in France. Since 1996, this suburb of Bordeaux celebrates the Morue every year with la Fête de la Morue, a popular culinary and culture festival that gives a stage to young artists. This year the festival will take place on June14-16, and as always it comes with a rich program of concerts, cooking workshops, exhibitions, tastings, conferences and more. Fête de la musique

The Fête de la musique is a French national day, dedicated to the celebration of music, with free concerts and street parties happening on this day (June21) all over France. This is an extraordinary day where you get to walk around the city and enjoy an endless variety of small and big concerts from any genre of music. Like every other city in France, Bordeaux too will celebrate La Fête de la musique with its own street concerts and activities. Saint Emilion celebrates 20 years in Unesco

In 1999, Saint Emilion was the first vineyard to enter the UNESCO  world heritage list. This year, to marks the 20th anniversary of this nomination, Saint Emilion invites you to a weekend full of fun events in the village and the châteaux around it. The program includes concerts, markets, guided tours, open doors at the wineries and more. For more details click here and for the full program here. The event will take place on June 28-30.

Bordeaux Food-truck Festival

This is the biggest gathering of food trucks in the region of Nouvelle Aquitaine. Tens of different food trucks will be spread around the Gironde department in five events that will take place between June and September. This festival aims to mix street food with the finesse of the wine world. As part of this gastronomic event, visitors can taste the wines of the hosting châteaux and the specialties of food coming from all corners of the world: French, Italian, Brazilian and many more. The program of the festival also includes free concerts, exhibitions, escape games, activities for kids and more. The first food-truck weekend will take place on June 1-2 in Château de Portets in Graves. To purchase tickets for the different events in the Château click here. Salon de l’agriculture of Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Salon de l’agriculture of Nouvelle Aquitaine is an annual ten-day event where you get to discover the agricultural richness of our area through different activities. For example, a farm area with many animals and plants will be put in place, offering interesting activities for both kids and adults. Another feature that may attract you is the Gastronomy and Wine space, which will highlight the exceptional heritage of the region. The Salon de l’agriculture is part of a larger event taking place at the same time (Foire Internationale de Bordeaux) and will take place on June 1-10 in Parc des Expositions. ODP Music Festival in Peixotto

This is the fifth edition of the ODP Festival, whose objective is to raise funds for the orphans of firefighters that have died on duty. The festival will take place on June 6-9 at Peixotto Park in the center of Talence. That’s one of the best music festivals in Bordeaux metropole and always has a great lineup. Take your picnic to the Vineyard

Wine related activities and picnics are two favorite French pastimes, so why not combine them? Usually, the vines, owned by the different chateaux can only be visited as part of a guided tour in the chateau. However this month you have an opportunity to bring your picnic basket and spend a great day with your family and friends in the vineyards. The principle is quite simple: You bring your own picnic and the chateau will provide the wine and entertainment. Around 400 different wine domains from all over France are participating in the event taking place during the long weekend of June 8-10. More than 1000 activities will be proposed to families by the participating chateaux, they will reflect the specialties of the chateaux and the area, among them: art workshops, concerts, bike tours and more. Bordeaux Geek Festival

Comics, science fiction, video games, parallel worlds, creative industries – you’ll find all of these at the next Bordeaux Geek festival (BGF), taking place June 8-10 at Parc des Expositions. The goal of this festival is to experience geek culture and share knowledge on topics that are at the heart of the Geek community. The BGF brings together different players from these industries, among them: video artists, gamers, illustrators, designers, scientists, authors, comedians and more. Open doors at the chateaux of Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux

If you just missed the Open doors in Saint Emilion, you can make up for it with another wine area in the Bordeaux region: Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux. An open doors weekend will take place on June 8-9, with 45 different chateaux hosting you for wine tastings and other activities. For the full list of chateaux click here.

So Good Fest

The So Good Fest is an electronic music festival of the Gironde department that takes place every year at Plaine du Courneau in Canéjan. The 8th edition of the festival will take place on June 7-8 and will include a two-day lineup of French and international artists in the Electro, Dub and Techno music. The Medieval Festival of South Gironde

The Medieval Festival of Gironde will take place on June 15-16 in the Cabiros forest in Landiras (about 40 min. south of Bordeaux). This unique site, at the heart of the forest, creates a perfect medieval times atmosphere for this unique festival. The medieval village, the costumes and the sword fighting are only part of the activities that will help you discover the history and habits of those ancient times. Echo a Venir –electronic music festival

Echo a Venir is a big visual art and electronic music festival that will take place on June 24-26 on the riverfront. The program of the festival includes a lineup of Djs, audiovisual performances, digital workshops and more. Check out the facebook page of the festival for more info. Festival Garorock

One of the biggest music festivals in our region is about to take place on June 27-30  in Marmande (about an hour drive from Bordeaux). Garorock is an in international festival with 5 big stages that will host more than 50 French and international artists. For more info and tickets click here.

Trajectoires

Trajectoires is a unique cultural event where talented students of music, theater and choreography will perform their works of art to pass their diploma. Around 50 different performances of theater, comedy, dance and music will be put on stage in different locations in Bordeaux. Nuits Atypiques Festival

This multidisciplinary festival in south Gironde has been taking place every summer since 1992.  From June 1 to July 21, 22 events will take places in 12 towns in the Gironde department. The program includes a variety of activities such as concerts, theater, films, debates, tours to discover the towns and more. Check out the full program here and info about the locations here.

Last chance to see the Interactive special effects exhibition

Do you ever wonder how the special effects you see in movies are made? If you do then you should check out the “Effets speciaux” exhibition taking place these days in Cap Sciences. It’s an interactive exhibition that allows you to see the behind the scenes of the cinema world and experiment with different special effects like the green screen. Entry prices range from 6.5€ to 9€ and free for kids under 5 years old. For more info click here.

Instincts – an exhibition of Mika

Another exciting exhibition is about to take place at the Institut Bernard Magrez, a place dedicated to street art. Starting May 28, an exhibition of Mika, one of Bordeaux’s most prominent street artists will be presented at the museum. If you live in Bordeaux, you’re most definitely familiar with the works of this brilliant artist as you can spot them in different places around the city. Dance at la guingette chez Alriq

La Guinguette chez Alriq is a tavern at the Bastide neighborhood, on the rive droite of the Garonne. During the summer the place is full with locals who escape the more touristy rive gauche and come to enjoy live concerts on the river bank. The Guinguette is open from Thursday to Sunday. See you in town!

This is going to be a very musical weekend with a lot of music festivals in Pessac, Bacalan, different parks in Bordeaux and the big one, the GaroRock in Marmand. Also, the sales have started this weekend, so it’s a good opportunity to hit the stores. If you want to travel a bit, there are quite a lot of activities in Saint Emilion this weekend, with celebrations of the 20 years to the Unesco declaration. You can also just go traveling to the Medoc area by following my new guide to the Medoc wine region.

Saint Emilion celebrates 20 years in Unesco

In 1999, Saint Emilion was the first vineyard to enter the UNESCO  world heritage list. This year, to marks the 20th anniversary of this nomination, Saint Emilion invites you to a weekend full of fun events in the village and the châteaux around it. The program includes concerts, markets, guided tours, open doors at the wineries and more. For more details click here and for the full program here. The event will take place on June 28-30.

Les Tropicales – film festival

The Tropicales is a cinema festival created to encourage people to share their thoughts and feelings about different movies. This year’s program includes many popular films as well as new movies that were premiered at the Cannes festival, outdoor screenings, debates and more. The festival will take place on June 27-30 in Cinéma Utopia and Place du Palais. Take a look at the full program.

Festival Les Z’Arpètes

This is the 17th edition of this outdoor arts festival that takes place this Friday and Saturday (June 28-29) in Villenave d’Ornon. the two-day festival includes a very rich program of concerts and performances as well as an artisans’ market and many activities for kids. Festival en Bonne Voix

This is the 13th edition of the Bonne Voix festival, a free event that takes place every year in Parc Razon in the center of Pessac and proposes a rich program of French music. This year the festival will take place on Saturday (June 29) and will include artists like Sinclair, Léa Paci, Delta, Bancal Chéri and others. For more info click here

Festival Mur du Souffle – Street art live

Mur du Souffle is an artistic association that fights against the Cystic fibrosis disease. This weekend (June 29-30) they invite you to a live street art festival in Bruges. during two days, four street artists (Rouge, DACO, KARTE and MIKA) will paint in three different locations in the city. The program also includes a music concert, food and activities for kids. For more info click here

Festival des arts et des cultures Grand Parc en Scène

The Grand Festival was created to reunite people through art and culture. The artistic program includes culinary activities, workshops, circus, dance, DJ sets and more. For more info click here. The free festival will take place this weekend (June 28-29) at Place de l’Europe.

Bordeaux Open Air

Bordeaux Open Air is a series of free summer electronic music events, all set in different locations and with a great city vibe to them. Every event is dedicated to a different country and hosts its DJ’s for sets of electronic music. The first event this summer is taking place this Sunday (June 30 ) at Square Dom Bedos. Fête de la pirogue

Fête de la pirogue is a fun festival that celebrates the Tahitienne culture and gastronomy with activities like traditional dance, an artisan village, traditional food and more. The event will take place this weekend (June 29-30) on Plage du Moutchic at Lacanau lake.  For more info click here

Week-end découverte des plantes sauvages comestibles médicinales

A discovery weekend of wild, edible and medicinal plants will take place this weekend (June 29-30) at Ferme d’Hortélie in Saint-Sauveur. The program includes a discovery walk of wild plants, lunch in the farm, workshops on aromatic plants and oil fabrication and more. Check out the full program here

Festival Connexion Brasil

This fun event is about to take place this weekend (June 29-30) in different locations in Bacalan. During the two days, plenty of fun activities related to music and dance from Brazil will take place in locations like Les Vivres de l’Art, Halles de Bacalan and others. For more info click here

Meeting de l’Air de Cazaux

La base aérienne 120 de Cazaux is one of the biggest economic actors in the region. This weekend (June 29-30) the airbase opens its doors to the public with plenty of demonstrations of their airplanes. For tickets and more info click here

Eysines Goes Soul 

The annual soul festival in Eysines will take place this Friday (June 28)  at the Domaine du Pinsan. You are invited to bring your picnic to the park and celebrate the summer with concerts of soul, rock, funk and blues. The evening will end with a fireworks show. Heures d’été in Caudéran

Heures d’été is a series of musical evenings taking place every Friday in different parks in the Cauderan neighborhood in Bordeaux. This week the musical evening will take place on Friday (June 28) at Chartreuse Saint-André. For the full program click here.

Soirée dj set croisière

How about a party on a boat, sounds nice, right? That’s exactly what you can do this Sunday afternoon (June 30). The boat-restaurant SICAMBRE invites you to get on board and enjoy three hours of music, wine, snacks and a guided tour of Bordeaux on the water. The tour starts at Quai des Chartrons. SUNDUB Session

PIK NIK ZIK – free concerts

Last chance to see the “When art and design take on glass” exhibition

This is the last chance to see this beautiful glass exhibition at the Cité du Vin. The exhibition beautifully combines the wine and glass worlds. It includes the works of several glass designers who all modified and reinvented wine glasses and bottles. For more details click here.

This weekend is focused on two main events: Bordeaux fête le fleuve where Bordeaux celebrates its river and the famous Fête de la musique with live music on the streets of Bordeaux. So a big part of this weekend’s list will discuss these two in detail. But as usual, I won’t leave you with just two options 🙂 We have a food festival, street art, fashion events and more. Bordeaux fête le fleuve

Bordeaux fête le fleuve is one of the most beautiful and entertaining events the city has to offer. Starting today (June 20) and until Sunday (June 23) Bordeaux will celebrate the Garonne River with plenty of festive activities and big beautiful vessels docking on the banks. The program includes a big concert every night, water activities, a visit to big impressive boats, gastronomic pavilions, art exhibitions, a white wine festival, fireworks on the river and more. The entrance is free but if you want to enjoy some of Bordeaux’s wine as well, you can get a pass here. For more details and the full program click here.

When: June 20-23 / Where: The banks of the Garonne

Take a tour on some of the biggest ships in the world

To celebrate the river, Bordeaux invited some of the biggest and most beautiful ships to dock at banks  of the Garonne. Among others, there will be two Russian ships, Kruzenshtern and Sedov, which are the largest training ships in the world, 114 and 117 meters long respectively. Many of the boats docking at the riverfront, including the biggest ones, offer tours on June 20th from (14:00 to 18:00) and on June 21-23 from 10:30 to 12:30 and 14:00 to 18:30. Tickets are 5 euros and free for kids under 6 yo.You can see all the boats arriving in Bordeaux for the event and order tickets for the tours here.

Fête de la musique

The Fête de la musique is a French national day, dedicated to the celebration of music, with free concerts and street parties happening on this day (June 21) all over France. This is an extraordinary day where you get to walk around the city and enjoy an endless variety of small and big concerts from any genre of music. Like every other city in France, Bordeaux too will celebrate La Fête de la musique with its own street concerts and activities.

One of the biggest music events this year will take place at the Bordeaux fête le fleuve festival. On June 21 Place des Quinconces will turn into a music festival village hosting a long lineup of artists from the French pop scene. You can see the jull musical program here.

Les Epicuriales

This foodie event taking place on June 13-23 has become an early summer Bordelaise tradition. For 11 days les Epicuriales festival transforms Allées de Tourny (next to the Opera) to gastronomic heaven with about twenty restaurants set up especially for the event. The highlight of the event is ”Les Étoiles d’Épicure”, a restaurant that will host a different Michelin star chef every evening. For more details check out their website or their facebook page.

L’Été de Musical Écran

L’Été de Musical Écran is a series of seven open-air cinema events that will take place in different parks in Bordeaux metropole during the summer. Every event will start with an open-air screening of a movie/ documentary related to music and will be followed by a DJ set. The first event will take place this Saturday (June 22) in Parc Favols in Carbon-Blanc. The first movie to be screened is Daft Punk Unchained. For more details click here.

A big second hand clothes sale

After many successful huge vintage clothes sales in Paris, Violette Sauvage arrives to Bordeaux with the same agenda of giving clothes a second life. The big vintage sale will take place this weekend (June 22-23)  in one of the most special places in Bordeaux, les Vivres de l’Art. Apart from a huge amount of clothes, the event also includes food trucks and different workshops and activities. For more info check out the facebook page of the event.

Festival Free music

Freemusic is a big music festival taking place this weekend (June 21-23) at Lac de Montendre (about an hour drive from Bordeaux). Echo a Venir –electronic music festival

This is actually happening right after the weekend, but I wanted to remind you all about this fun festival. A vernissage week in Bordeaux

This is a special weekend for art lovers. This week (until June 25) Bordeaux welcomes its new cultural season, which was named “Liberté ! Bordeaux 2019”. For the occasion, a vernissage week takes place this week (June 18-25) in Bordeaux where some of Bordeaux’s best museums present their new exhibitions at the same time. The participating museums are the Beaux-Arts gallery (not the museum), CAPC, la Base sous-marine, musée des Arts décoratifs et du Design and more. See the full program of exhibitions here.

Rivages et Vertigo Sea – a new exhibition

The Base sous marine is hosting a new and intriguing exhibition starting June 21. It is, in fact, a combination of two exhibitions addressing the themes of sea and shore. Rivages is a photography exhibition by the artist Harry Gruyaert and VertigoSea is a video installation by the director John Akomfrah. For more information about the exhibition click here.

A few weeks ago a new exhibition by the street artist Mika was presented at the Institut Bernard Magrez. Fête de la Morue

For more than two centuries, Bègles has been an important center of Morue (codfish) in France. Since 1996, this suburb of Bordeaux celebrates the Morue every year with la Fête de la Morue, a popular culinary and culture festival that gives a stage to young artists. This year the festival will take place on June14-16, and as always it comes with a rich program of concerts, cooking workshops, exhibitions, tastings, conferences and more. Festival Vie Sauvage

Vie Sauvage, is a music and gastronomy festival that takes place every year in Bourg. The eighth edition of the festival will take place on June 14-16 and includes a long list of artists that will take the stage during the three days. SoliFest OFF Festival
